Someone's gone and made a deliding tool, and its cheaper than the delid-die mate.

You can 3D Print your own. Some hardcore modder in Japan has already designed something like this.

I would be more interested in a tool to grip a cpu while i put it in a socket. As i get older and shakier i find it more and more difficult and it isnt the sort of job i can delegate.

My current solution?

I stick them to my index and middle finger with double sided tape and place them in the socket.....loads easier than trying to hold the sides of the chip.

it is a small marketBUT for guys that always de-lid it's the way to go. I used to be a hardcore de-lidder until I bought a quad core that was soldered on and wasnt aware that it was soldered untill I pulled the Die off. was a love VID for the time to, I was pretty bummed only had it long enough to fire it up take cpu-z at stock and that was it.oh well

That's true, but, 'being the way to go' doesn't sell more units/get a bigger market when so few people do this. It's an enthusiast site here and you will only find a handful of people that will use it.

If it would linger on amazon like a casual toothbrush I would order one just for fun. It just depends how easy it will be obtainable.

Yes it is a rare special Item, but you don't need to mass produce it. Few hundred units are enough... produced in some cheap plastic(read dildo) factory in the spare time .

That worked for my 4790k, but not without leaving bite marks on the IHS where the vise jaws gripped.
This is exciting for Skylake though, I don't trust the razor method

You have to use some material in between the vice and CPU, I used some thin plastic like zip tie across and then tightened it.

I'm pretty sure the guy isn't trying to get rich off this. Which is probably why he only asked for $600 for the Kickstarter.

I'm pretty sure the kickstarter was just so the guy could get enough to cover the costs of materials, and get a free pre-order system. So he doesn't end up buying the material, making a bunch, and then ending up with units he can't sell and money out of pocket.

I see no issues with this. The 3d printed ones are way easier lol
