Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anybody can give me some inside news on the new up coming GPU's from either AMD or Nvidia with some possible (rough) launch dates.

This is because I'm getting a little board with my current setup and I'm looking to SLI my current GTX 980 or either a single GTX 980 Ti but I'm guessing the GTX 980 SLI would be more potent.

But I find all this upgrading to either SLI or Ti irrelevant if the new cards are some where around the corner.

Thanks in advance. ;)

I would just give it a couple of months, we should see something soon enough to justify waiting with the system you already have.

Yeah, I would say a couple months. Computex is at the end of this month. Will hopefully get a lot info from it.

As rumored no HBM2 gRAM this year . Just early in 2017 is coming AMD Vega with 4096 shaders , 8GB HBM2 , 160-180W TDP and 20-30% faster than Fury X . So 10-20% faster than GTX 980 ti , roughly .

We ll see what NVidia will offer in the summer . But yes , GTX 980 ti is an awesome card

Also , Polaris 10 video cards (the sucessor of R9 390X/390 ), , up to 8GB GDDR5 , TDP 110-130W , launch this summer

Edit : GTX 980 is a good card too

NVIDIA may have HBM2 in 2016. Depends on yields from what I understand.

THey will have Pascal out in May last I understood, with GDDR5(maybe 5x).

All performance listed above is speculation at best.

So if this is (maybe) the case, would I be better off getting another 980 to SLI as the new release's will be next year and also (technically) my setup with 2x980 would be on par or if not faster?

I'm getting mixed message's here. Some say wait a couple of months, where the quote above says next year?

Anybody else got some solid information they would like to share?

Cheers.

HBM2 may happen only for Titan this year

They are different chips : Polaris 10 and 11 are coming within several months . Vega with HBM2 early next year . NVidia should release new Pascal cards in June .

GTX 980 is fine and can meet your needs at least for a year . I would wait for a new card i.e. a single setup

I'm thinking R9 490X is similar in performance to Fury X but at substantially less power draw.

Hi guys,

So the general consensus is, just wait it out for a couple of months yeah?

Something should be around the corner...

Are you serious? :) At this point nobody has "solid" information regarding that. Well, perhaps AMD/Nvidia engineers but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to pop up here with all the details. Right now we don't know anything for sure.

Ok let me rephrase that.

Can anybody help me with some info on the new cards release from either AMD or NVIDIA?

That better for you mate?

Well what we understand is Nvidia will be first and we will be seeing something in the next 2 months and it will be similar to this round (Like the GTX 980 and 970, it will be mid range GTX 1080 and then 1070) and will be slightly better (Probably with 8gb GDDR5X) than the current GTX 980ti by a similar amount like the GTX 980 beat the 780ti. After than we will see some HBM 2 cards on the top end probably at the end of the year or beginning of 2017 like a GTX 1080ti or the likes.

As for AMD, well we are probably a little longer out on those and should not expect much until June-August before we hear more but it will likely be a similar performance part.

That information is just what I have read and heard about and its mostly based on vagueness from the companies, rumors, production dates for parts, etc. Unfortunately there is nothing solid other than Nvidia will be announcing stuff within the next month.

Thanks pal. You've been a big help! :toast:

I'm still tempted to go SLI tho, as I've been able to find a second 980 relative cheap locally.

Although Id really like to see a nice Radeon come to the table ;)

Just wait until June. Both AMD and nVidia will have some new gen GPUs on shelves to pick the best. If you need to have the best GPU for the next 2-3 years to come, you will need to wait until late 2016-early 2017 for sure. But me thinks that if nVidia's 1st release hasn't got all DX12 features embedded in its HW, they are lost as AMD is already there with last gen GPUs due to CGN architecture. Interesting times ahead for sure.

Consumer grade Pascal cards, in the form of GTX1070 & GTX1080 will be out around July this year, utilizing GDDR5X chips. For the prosumer-grade Tesla P100, it will be the only card that has the HBM2 as standard. Might wanna wait it out a little while longer b4 getting my hands on one.

I'm curious, is there a game out there that is truly pushing graphics @ 1080p? PC games for some time have been console ports with all kinds of eye candy settings & increased draw distance to help move video cards for Nvidia/AMD. I'm wondering if there is a game out there that really needs more graphic power then what the market currently has to offer?

Not at 1080p really. A 980Ti will hit 60FPS+ in just about any title not named Crysis 3. While the vast majority have 1080p or less res, the trend is clearly for higher resolutions and VR, both of which require a pretty significant amount of horsepower to drive properly (60 FPS).

that's understandable, I personally find a lot of AAA titles lacking. When I do have free time I tend to stick to Bethesda/Blizzard games.

I actually played crysis 3 a few years back on a 560ti at pretty good settings

If that is true, I specifically recall stating that this card coming out soon for NVIDIA will be right around the 980Ti...

Not that I can read the future, just that it always seems to be that way... :)

EDIT: One thing to note, that seems to be done on an i3 or am I crazy/sysinfo not reporting correctly? I see 2 cores 4 threads...i3 2100 listed That would mean when done with a i7, that score goes up because of the PhysX test.....
