The challenges of forum moderation

Boy, you all have terrible histories as moderators. I have Asian users proclaiming their (disturbingly detailed) love for me, and frequently read reported posts complaining about Australian grammar. I'd concur with @EarthDog TPU is one of the tamest sites to moderate. I moderate for Disqus and the amount of vitriolic cancer is beyond comprehension. The human race is surprisingly crappy.

I don't know about that being racist, but as a staff member at a different site, "baiting" members and having an expectation of them to "tell you up front how he feels" is pretty unbecoming behavior of moderation/administration and a curious expectation of your members to share their political views . I don't agree with his views, but I would never bait him into a conversation and ban him because they are a "terrorist sympathizer" either (unless he was breaking other forum rules). So, maybe that is racist/profiling...? I can say I am not left with a positive view on how that situation (as we know it) was handled, that is for sure.

That said, we have rules against political discussions because it tends to break down from a decent discussion to personal insults which warrant staff action. There is a lot of passion in some people regarding politics and religon. We have a VERY mature readership for the most part and still it, inevitably, degrades.

@ RCoon - I was talking about where I moderate. This place is nuts compared to OCF... Truth be told, at times I feel like this is turning into OCN...

At OCN, there seems to be a lot of personal attacks and a lot of aggressive people. I don't do anything there but sell my wares anymore. I don't know, it has just, 'devolved'.

It has A LOT of great information, particularly in the enthusiast realm, but its a mess trying to find it... very unorganized, IMO. Here, there is less of an enthusiast/hardcore overclocking contingent so information is few and far between... more located in the 'cloud' than with organized threads/articles.

I will have to say that, i tried helping "newbies" on other tech forums when people needed the help. Turns on on other tech forums people get really really offended when you are blunt about things.
This happend maybe a month or two ago on tomshardware forum. A kid asked these exact words "Hi everyone im not really well versed in the tech world and iv been having issues trying to run COD Black Ops 3. My system specs are R7 260, An intel i5 4430 and 4gb of ram"
So i told him that there could be multiple reason, his gpu might not be powerful enough and that he probably doesnt have enough ram causes game to run poorly if at all. And the kid flipped out at me and told all the admins that i was being rude and that i was merely stating my opinion sense my computer was superior? and then i got banned. and havent even missed the place one bit.
I dont think i could be a moderator due to the fact im a little blunt

The worst tech site I have ever seen for moderators is tomshardware. Having the traffic on their forum doesn't help as its full of fanyboys in the PC hardware area but many of the moderators are just a bunch of people who post there all the time so Ive seen plenty of people get banned just because they disagree with a brand the individual moderator likes.
