Hey all, I was stopping by to ask a question in regards to my setup. I am thinking about adding some fans to my system. My specs should be filled out and up to date.

I fun a pretty aggressive fan profile on my cards and have them sync'd using MSI Afterburner. I also keep the power level at -50% as I don't notice much in terms of performance loss but do notice temperature differences.

Typically the top card will hit anywhere from 65C-80C depending on the game. Generally if I keep the power level at -50% it generally will not go above 70C. I do not have any issues with the bottom card, it always stays below below 65C.

With the case that I have, Fractal Design Arc Mini..... I have room in the front for 2x 120mm fans, 2x 120/140mm in the top, 1x 120/140mm in the rear, and 1x 120/140mm on the side.

Now I currently have fans in those places but they do not seem to be moving air... I have the stock fans and then I added a 120mm Enermax Vegas on the lower front for the drive bays and I have a 140mm Aerocool shark in the top slot closest to the rear of the case. I cannot get a regular fan on the side due to the Zalman 9900 heatsink.

What I am thinking about is switching all the 120mm out for some Aerocool Sharks because they do move a lot of air and are quiet. On the side, I was going to get one of those slim Scythe Kaze fans, I know they can be loud but I use headphones, not a bit worried about that and it will clear the Zalman heatsink.

The case does have that vertical slot and I was considering either that Evercool/Vantec slot cooler to blow straight on the cards instead of the Kaze fan. I was also considering getting one of those slot coolers that exhausts seeing as how the cards dump their heat inside the case.

I have all fans currently configured as intake minus the rear which is the sole exhaust fan.

I have removed the 2nd tier drive bays.

I do have some Ultra Kaze fans from my watercooling build but they do not fit the snap in brackets on the front and if I put them in the top they are liable to reverse the flow of my CPU heatsink fan and other fans in the area...... I mean with those I might even be able to unplug the CPU fan and let them cool the heatsink.... those fans are beast....

Just kicking some ideas around as I know I could better cool/ventilate the video cards which would let them stretch out a bit.... I would like to keep the Core clocks at 1050mhz instead of seeing them dip down to around 850mhz.

Sadly the top card will always suffer in Crossfire. That said those temps aren't that out of character. Have you tried using the awesome Target Temp in Overdrive?(Truly my favourite thing about Fury and the Crimsons) You could use that on the top card to make it be a bit more aggressive on the cooling than the bottom card. I have mine set to 65 and it works perfectly keeping the card just under that all the time no matter the game.

HA!, good for testing if you have a heat issue :p.

Anyways 80c isn't bad at all. IF you have the space between the CPU cooler and graphics card you can place a fan their just make sure you put it the right way around and that would typically be were the fan blows air at the back of the card.

not necessarily with a nano
the cooler you keep the the faster it runs
the only real option is water-blocks which you can get from Ek

All of the current video cards are like that. 80C temp wise is still fine for usage. Like you said only fix past that is water.

Zip tie a fan behind the video cards pushing air over them. That will definitely result in some lower temps.

Is there a place for a fan on the bottom? If you don't have a fan there, or it's not covered, air will be lost out the bottom.
I have all fans currently configured as intake minus the rear which is the sole exhaust fan.
That's how I'd have them, assuming that you also have an intake on the bottom. I'd experiment with covering that side fan fan location. I want the air to go front to back, bottom to top.

Going to an AIO for your CPU might lower the top GPU temperatures because it might not pick up heat from the CPU's HSF. Might.

Still stick by trying to use the Temp Target in Overdrive in the Crimsons. I know your using AB and I haven't used it in ages so I don't know if Temp Target is an option in AB

air flow isn't your issue your temps are within the range for a r9 nano
AMDs clock-power target for the NANO is 75C with 80C being the point where it starts reducing clocks/voltages more aggressively
you bought a card that is designed to 'throttle' if you don't want it to throttle water cooling is your only option
else leave well enough alone as more airflow isn't gonna net you much there just isn't enough surface area/metal to dissipate the heat (unless you want your pc to sound like a 747 at take off thrust)

It seems you have negative case pressure. Don't like it.

You should add a fan at the bottom and in the side panel... that's the best you can do really...

I am not sure something like that would help a lot. Its not moving enough air to make a difference in this case. Get a fan, mount it in your case between the HDD area (I recommend zip ties if you want to be cheap and easy), and have it push air over the GPU's. In turn you will get reduced temps overall and mostly on the top card because the hot air being exhausted from the bottom card is being pushed away from the top Nano. I have done that before in situations needing airflow on my own systems including when I first installed my pair of HD 6990's (Though I did it in a different way) and helping friends out with similar issues.

Replace the thermal paste if you haven't done so yet.

I have all fans currently configured as intake minus the rear which is the sole exhaust fan.

This is a big problem in air moving through the case. You are creating a huge positive pressure situation with all those fans in taking air and only one exhaust.

So the case is filling up with pressure, then there is no airflow except for what the back fan can move out. Effectively making your airflow entirely limited to that one back fan. You want close to balanced, you can have a little positive pressure, but your setup is way to unbalanced.

I'd switch the two top fans to exhaust and see how that helps with getting the warm air out of the case.

Be careful when replacing thermal paste on the Fiji die. The interposer is very fragile.

I would highly recommend you do a EKWB block. It looks sexy and it will remove any heat throttle problem. Also try down volting your card.

I pretty much been saying that all day @xkm1948
too many people in this thread without a actual clue =/
inb4Op bricking his card trying to change thermal paste for no reason

One word of warning should you buy a Fiji and molest it in various ways that overclockers and enthusiasts normally do, be careful. If you look at the above picture you can see the pretty patterns on the interposer, they look good but don’t taste good. If you want to clean off the thermal paste and replace it with your own cooling solution, be really careful of these areas. Why? Because the interposer, basically a chip, is mounted face up, it is not a traditional flip chip part with the transistors and metal layers protected by the wafer, they fragile bits are on top this time.

How fragile? Don’t touch them, don’t wipe them off, and otherwise don’t do anything that could break a far sub-micron metal trace. It is really fragile and you will destroy your very expensive GPU if you do this, don’t say we didn’t warn you. This is a tech transition that hasn’t been seen since the days when flip chips replaced wire bonding so think back to the bad old days before you mod. Really, be careful or you will end up with an expensive 4GB, water-cooled doorstop.

Yeah I do not see a need to replace the thermal compound...

I replaced the fans in the case with all Aerocool Sharks and I have some of the thin scythe fans coming in so I can put one on the side. I also rotated my Zalman cooler 90 degrees so it is pulling heat away from the back of the top card and exhausting it out of the top of the case.

I now have 2 intake fans (front) and 3 exhaust fans (rear and top)

My PSU is too long for a 120mm to fit in the bottom so I have a 92mm coming in that I will either Zip-Ties or I will use those rubber anti-vibration screws to keep it in place.

I have been messing with fan and power settings the past few days.... so far if I keep a rather aggressive fan profile on the cards the top one hits about 71C and the bottom gets about 54C. No throttling of the clock speeds at all. I was using MSI AB to monitor clocks and temps while playing CS:GO for a few hours. Need to try it out with Overwatch next week.

Overall I can tell there is more airflow going through the case now and appears to be helping.
