My system stats. are on my profile. When I launch windows xp,from stand-by mode all my fans, cpu,gpu and power supply rev. up to max rpm. I am also getting nothing on monitor. If i unplug computer and re-set it is fine. Been doing this more offen this week. Any Ideas what may be causing this? :) Did at total re-install on the o.s.,figured may be xp bug but still doing the same. On another thread I posted was wondering If I can use a standard atx power supply with a dell mother board? Thank you for any advice.:respect:

Don't use standby. It seems as if your PSU or your motherboard, or a combination of both is not working correctly, or most likely XP isn't working correctly. This happens to me on my system. There may be a fix in your bios settings but not likely.

It may sound stupid, but check to see if your keyboard is plugged into your mouse port, or vice versa. That ended up being my roommate's problem...

I've noticed that on many new systems with variable speed fans, (Including Dell's) when you first turn the PC on, the fan speed controls on the mobo (has nothing to do with winders) will run the fans at full speed till the temperature sensors determine what speed will be needed.

Once the temps have been determined by the mobo logic, the fan speed will decrease to a low level and remain there till temps increase and more cooling is required.
This activity is normal and expected.

Keeping the fans all Clean and lubricated will do much to keep them running as quiet and efficient as possible.

Cheers,
Shadow

it can't hurt to do what shadow said but also can you check to be sure what you were using: standby or hibernate? if only one try a combo of both and fiddle with it for a bit, when you hibernate the comp dumps all the ram onto the hard drive and almost turns off, it could be something to do with either standby or hibernate and not the other so try this and see if any of these combos solves the prob:
-use only standby
-use only hibernate
-set to stanby first the hibernate
hopefully that solves it, otherwise I would just set it to turn off the monitor and HDDs after a bit a just screw SB and Hib.
let us know if any of this works

it may seam like it's not related but maybe try resetting the defaults in bios or even reflashing the bios. i saw you reloaded the OS but were the drivers updated?
