Nvidia GTX 1080 Australia Price is a RIP OFF

So as the title says once again we Aussies are getting the royal screw job with pricing of new nvidia graphic cards. Nvidia says US$599 for the FE edition, that equates to AU$812. http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=599&From=USD&To=AUD

But most retailers here are selling them for AU$1199. Thats AU$400 more then what the US price is saying it should be. I can understand a few taxes need to be payed but CMON $400 more then the US

Same here in the good ol' British Isles.... we have to pay £1 for $1 so for a $200 GPU which equates to about £138.... we get charged £200, guess their accountants are pretty lazy and CBA doing a simple conversion

It's probably what the market is willing to pay. Supply is low, demand is high. With the current conversion rate $599USD -> ~$820AUD + 10% GST should land it around $900AUD. Add some overheads (shipping is null and void as Australia is closer to China/Taiwan than US) and I'd expect to see it around $950-$1050AUD. That'd be much more reasonable.

Seems to be pretty standard affair. The Fury X goes for about US$620, which should be about AU$815, but mwave is selling them for AU$1059. Yeah, it isn't a $400 markup, but it is almost $250, and there isn't really any demand for the Fury X. There is a huge demand for the 1080, so a larger markup is expected.

Just for comparisons sake, the US average income is about $52,000 a year. Australia is about $75,000 a year. That's around 30% more.

US GTX 1080 = $799
AUS GTX 1080 = $1199

Roughly a 33% differnce.

I'd be pissed about that 3% too.

Also, Australia has an inflation problem. Bad.

This isn't an issue of geography... I'm well versed in it. It's more a mental estimation gone awry, and me forgetting about Alaska.

Technically, I think the closest Island to Antartica (that isn't close enough to be well, part of it) is elephant Island (or maybe Gibbs Island if you count it separate), but no one lives there. At least not since the Endurance crashed there.

I was interested in the new nvidia cards but I think I am going to wait it out and see what the new AMD cpu and 4 series from ATI have to offer and probably build a new machine depending on which camp I like better at the time.

Over 900can here... after taxes and shipping, well over 1000can. Only paid 500can for my 970 shipped.... which I'm still paying off on a fixed income. Stupid prices, but what can you do? I won't be buying a pascal any time
soon that's for sure. I guess if you want it, you gotta pay for it.....
