Nvidia GTX 1080 Australia Price is a RIP OFF

Its not just video cards, its everything! as the rest of the world thinks that we Aussies earn more or have alot more cash then anyone else in the world, so we can "afford" to pay for these higher prices, just look at the interview on good game against game developers when asked why we pay so much more? there response was, cause we can! Its disgusting and even when you price PC parts from the egg they jack up the price anyway for us Aussies and postage cost is a joke! works out you might save at most $10 big whoop! Hate to tell you the rest of the world but I earn less then most even in other countries.

That is a fact. I used to be able to work out a decent shipping rate to Australia where you almost made out with a cost benefit even with customs, but USPS aparently got wise that their flat rate box there was too cheap, and approximately doubled the price. You guys have it rough.

$1399 AUD for the Asus STRIX and MSI Gaming X. Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed. I was thinking the 1080 would be priced about 10-15% more than the current price of a 980Ti.

Just for comparisons sake, the US average income is about $52,000 a year. Australia is about $75,000 a year. That's around 30% more.

I know you can't really bring currency into the equation when talking about salaries and cost of living and what not, but $52,000USD is roughly $70,000AUD.

You think you have it bad, in my country, anything over 27€ (afaik) goes through customs and is taxed. At rate of 22%+customs tax + customs manipulation and shipping costs. Only way it makes sense to import anything is for cheaper stuff or hoping it won't go through customs. Or the fact you can't get it from Europe. But despite my government suck at almost everything, they are absolutely perfect when it comes to customs. They check bloody every package without exceptions if it's anything seemingly of a bigger value. Gift tag is of course entirely ignored and you get taxed even on stuff that was gifted to you. This means I only buy small crap from China and everything else from Germany or UK. Which, if UK exits EU, it'll suck even more. I used to like to support local business, but when differences are up to 100€, sorry I'm not that loaded.

Yeah, I only mentioned customs because I was working for a bitcoin firm (in the shipping department of an ASIC retailer) when that was going hog wild and ASIC miners were selling all over the globe for multiple grand. Obviously, we had to fill out customs and warn customers they would pay them on arrival in many locations, Aussies included.

Been a while since then, and it's good to hear that at least for one teency area (sub-grand graphics cards customs) you guys aren't getting the shaft. You get it enough elsewhere.

Now I know why you dismissed my Sabertooth offer when I said I'd "cut you a good deal." The postage didn't look too bad from my end, but with customs like that it's only half the story. Rough.

that's because the card is in high demand and retailers are price gouging for the simple reason that they can. you may not want to pay the price premium, but i guarantee you that there are people with some deep pockets that will. when the 980 Ti first came out last year, amazon, one of the world's most reputable sellers, was charging $850 for the reference version, and that's BEFORE state sales tax. so a California resident would have ended up paying $935 for it after tax.

it's like coming into a nissan dealership and asking for a reasonable price on a GT-R right after the new models are released. it's not going to happen! you'll be paying at least 10% above retail. i speak from experience....

calm your nipples. wait out the shortages. and you'll get your card for a much more reasonable price. there is no need for panic attacks

United Kingdom England is paying £619-680 for the GTX 1080 so far; where as it should be around £480-540

You haven't ever paid for anything in $AUD or $CAD have you?

When a new high end card comes out at that price, you can bet that it's staying that way for he majority of its time on the market, regardless of how the currency fluctuates or how old the card gets. Only until its time is at an end and its successor is in the works/at an end will the sales bring the price down slightly.

in my previous reply, i didn't quiet read the OP fully. i took a second look and now realize he is off his rocker.

nvidia said FE is US$700 PRE SALES TAX. that's exactly AU$950. if you live in California, where sales tax is the same 10% as Australia, you'll be paying US$770 or AU$1045. so the mark up is AU$155, not $400. AU$155 is probably the import tax. as state before, since the card is not made in the US or Australia, it is subject to an import tax. but that's something you should know.

lol. we had it much worse. i use to live in Russia. I paid using something worth less than good quality toilet paper. at one point we were walking around with 10,000 ruble bills, each worth less than one US dollar. there were even 100,000 ruble bills! when my dad bought a car that retailed $50,000 USD here, we ended up paying equivalent of $80,000 USD for it in Russia.

as for the price difference of this card in Aussieland, as i pointed out above, the difference isn't as horrible as the OP is whining about. he got some information wrong, like the price of a founders edition card and how sales tax works in the US. other countries advertise everything AFTER VAT, in the US it's before any taxes. and that's because every state has their own laws, own taxes. what's even crazier is that some regions WITHIN states have their own tax rates that differ wildly from towns just down a kilometer down the road

for example, New Jersey has a 7% sales tax. but there are really ghetto parts of New Jersey, called "Urban Enterprise Zones", where sales tax is only 3.5%!
