i'm going to assume PSU as well, how many 12V rails does it have? it might be possible to adjust the load and bypass the problem powering the PSU from different connectors

I don't think I know enough to do that. In other news fooling around with Aero is enough to cause a restart. It's not even a load thing it's basically using certain functions of the graphics card or that's what it appears to be

What GPU were you using before the gtx980ti?.
Have you tried using the Intel graphics? So you can rule out the GTX980ti.

IMO...
you have a 700 dollar GPU, yet you have a 40£ PSU... (Price from amazon UK)
Sorry, it is a cheap PSU...
Yet you have the second most powerful GPU (before the gtx10xx series) .
Why use a cheap PSU?...

So If it is the GPU, take it out... And use the OBG, and run firestrike (go get a coffee, LOL). If that works, stick the GPU in. If problem still exists, it is not exactly the GPU. it probably is the PSU.
As was suggested earlier,
get a better PSU.
(A rough comparison is that platinum psu's are the "equivalent" of a gtx 980ti )

Good idea... and the inside of the case.
BTW,' techpowerup forums make it really easy to post pictures... (No need for a "picture" site) just upload the picture using the "upload a file" button.

try removing the PSU completely, and then reinstall the same PSU?

PSU manufacturer does not even have a website, and there are no reviews. If anything, there are few unpacking videos on youtube in which almost all owners noted in comments that they had problems and replaced their PSUs within few months.
I suggest look around for a well-known brand PSU regardless of whether this EvoLabs is currently at fault, cause it seems like that 80+ label smells a bit funny and if so - it might also lie about 650W rating... :shadedshu:
Plus any new psu that does not have a 4+4 pin ATX connector is usually a generic no-name junk (even my shitty Zalman ZM500-LE has 4+4).

I forgot to get a photo of all the wires going in and out. I guess I can go back and do that in a moment. In the mean time I'll answer your question:
When I first got the machine I only had so much money available to spend on it. I also had only so much knowledge so I walked into my local computer shop and had a chat with them and they put some specs together for me. Basically that's it. I had a bit of cash available just before Christmas so I treated myself to the best GPU I could afford. Anyway, that aside

Here's the label. I am pretty sure it's the PSU too at this point. I tried a clean install of an older driver and that didn't work. If it was the drivers that would have sorted me out. I haven't tried the integrated graphics yet. To go about that I would just directly connect the monitor to the hdmi port sticking out of where the processor is? I will do that in a minute. I am going to order a PSU in any case just because this many people can't be wrong.

if those specs are honest, a 44A 12V line is actually quite good.

problem is that its an unknown brand and they could just be lying.
Being single rail (only one 12V) you dont have to worry about wiring being wrong.

At this stage i highly recommend taking the GPU out of the system and running only the onboard for a while, and checking if somethings wrong with the GPU - a seized fan, loose cooler, etc.

Wow that PSU does a max of 528 watts on the 12v rails!...(for a 650watt psu) Every other psu that i have owned tends to have all of the power on the 12... For example my 750 evga p2 has 62.4 amps on the 12v line (748.8) ...

BTW, good idea to remove the gtx980ti, before using the OBG. (not that it is necessary, but that sometimes the BIOS defaults the graphics to the graphics card. so just switching the monitor to the OBG, might not look like the OBG wotks.

Oh yes we can! The PSU is just the most likely culprit at this point, but follow the steps @Mussels gave to further troubleshoot before buying parts.
Every other psu that i have owned tends to have all of the power on the 12
So your experience is only in the ATX (IIRC) 2.x era. The relatively low 12v output (compared to capacity) with the high 5v output calls the design of this PSU into question.

I took out my GPU briefly to check a couple of things, first it's in fantastic shape physically the fans rotate freely and bounce back slightly before come to a stop
The pipes haven't moved the thing looks shiny and good. I haven't run it with just the OBG because I was a bit busy most of today. I'll do so tomorrow but I am not sure what that will tell us. The logs already let us know that the temperature stays below 40 before crashing. What should I do while I am running only OBG?

it would be very easy to swap out the power supply just to test it with a higher ratted or better quality unit, plus the PSU is cheaper then all the other parts like motherboard, memory kit, CPU etc.

Do what you were doing before to recreate the issue

The 25A 3.3 and 5v rail suggest group regulation the lack of a ul code on that label suggests the label might be a bit off if you will.

If the issue is gone what does that tell us and if the issue lingers what does that tell us?

it confirms its related to the dedicated GPU - the next step would be trying that GPU in another system, or another GPU in that system (then repeat with PSU)

Makes sense, shall I stick my old 760 in then?

760 consumes quite a bit less wattage than your current GPU so it changes nothing vs the onboard.

Or not. I tried with my 760 in and my 980ti out and exactly the same outcome as before. I currently have just my OBG running but perhaps because I don't have drivers or perhaps the mobo's OBG is just that bad I can't run anything that would usually trigger a restart. Where do I go from here, lads?

Ouch. Either that PSU is REALLY weak and can't even drive a 760, or we got something else going on here... unfortunately, I can't say exactly what.

Let's hope it's just a really overrated PSU spec sheet?
