Hello guys, i bought sapphire r9 390 nitro for about 370 dollars and now that gtx 1070 is out. I wanna get your opinion about; is it worth to upgrade to EVGA GTX1070 SuperClocked which is about 700 dollars in my country? Mostly i play World of Warcraft, Dota 2 and Overwatch on 1080p 120hz and make some rendering also. I be happy if u help me decide plz, thank you.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i know i would not go 1070 from my 980 ... for sure (well this would apply to my 290 if i still had my 290 ) SPECIALLY AT 700$.... what a ripoff

for what you play : no need (i play the same games without issues on my 980 and 6600K and i could also play them without any worries on the 290)

for rendering: it might depend altho it's not my domain ...

No.
Especially playing those CPU intensive games. Everything you have is completely fine for what you do. IMO.

I have a 970 and haven't even thought about upgrading... My 970 is still kicking ass for what I do @ 1080p

I would say no for what you stated. While yes the 1070 is much more powerful, I doubt those games at that resolution and refresh would show that huge a difference enough to warrant the upgrade.

Only if you want to use MSAA and other eye-candy, then buy the GTX1070, which I did.

If you want to spend more money for more performance, why not just buy 2 of the new RX 480 8gb editions and run them in crossfire, or a second r9 390 and crossfire that with your existing one. Either will match the 1070 for hundreds less.

CF is not a real option since not all games decently support it.
Even so it would make more sense for him to buy a 2nd 390 and put that in CF

To give an easy answer for OP:

!!!!NO!!!!

Keep the 390; you play 1080p anyway.
It would be better to wait and buy a new screen and 1070(or even 1080) for 700 dollar later-on (or a VEGA)

Don´t throw money away for something you will barely notice a difference too(for now).
Or you must be a real enthusiast; but then you wouldn´t be asking this question and buy a 1080 anyway.

You will see a little difference, but not by much and that's the problem. Those games are more CPU intensive than GPU even at 120hz on 1080p. Your best bet will be to just wait a bit and see what comes to market especially because down the line new cards will be released this year that will change prices and would help you get a better value. Not to mention you could then possibly upgrade your monitor.

you can upgrade cpu, ssd and ram for less than a 1070 costs...
Intel Core i7-4790 = $350
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB = $199
G.Skill 16GB DDR3 2133mhz = $65
= $614

hope this helps, sometimes its better to upgrade other components than gpu

I'd wait. Especially with the card you already have it's decent. Wait for the new cards showing up on the market and then decide. Now they cost too much and with your current card you will have some difference but price to performance sux at the moment so paying so much for me is a waste of money but that's your decision :)

Depends on what one believes to be a good value for the money, it doesn't beat even last gen 970:

No point until you move to
  • a higher resolution
  • more demanding games
Wait until a more substantial upgrade could be had for less money ;)

at its performance levels its a good value for money card.. :)

it goes without saying the more you move up the performance levels the more you pay.. the 1070 compares with a 980TI not a mid range 970.. and compared with a 1080 its super value for money.. he he

Nope.
960 was worse than 970 even from perf/$ perspective.

and compared with
Deliberately choosing comparison targets one could come to amazing conclusions.

at its performance levels its a good value for money card.. :)

it goes without saying the more you move up the performance levels the more you pay.. the 1070 compares with a 980TI not a mid range 970.. and compared with a 1080 its super value for money.. he he

Yeah. You are right but as medi01 said depends what you think is a good value for money. Charts he linked is shows everything. If you get as a base a 1080 then 1070 is a good value for performance but if you get 970 or RX480 1070 sux. My suggestion. Get the best value for money or performance for money with a card that already gives the best and then compare :)
In my opinion 1070 sux with its price but it is still a good card.
Waiting for 1070 to get cheaper is a fool's errand maybe waiting for new cards is a better choice :)

i think in the end you have to select the performance levels you need or want and then find a cost effective way of getting them..

if the best bang for buck does not give you the performance level you want or need its all academic.. so far up near the high end the 1070 looks to be good value for money (relatively speaking) and the 1080 dosnt.. the pattern follows the 970 and 980.. one was good value for money and the other wasnt..

i think amd have a winner with the 480 at 1080 resolution levels but that depends on the coming 1060 card.. how quickly it comes and how its priced.. if its as poorly supplied at launch as the 1070 and 1080 cards were the 480 will be a winner.. i think it will be poorly supplied.. more so being as the launch has been brought forward and nvidia cant just conjure up 1060 cards out of thin air.. :)

they f-cked up (under supplied) the 1080 and 1070 launch and dont see any reason why the same wont happen with the potentially much more popular (higher demand) 1060 cards..

i think you are right about the lower level 960 card not being good value for money.. that was aimed at those that could not afford the more expensive but better value for money 970 card.. the poor lose out as is often the case.. he he
