I hope this will be fixed with the next Nvidia driver.

I have the same problem here too, happy to see i'm not the only one with this fan's problem. Like you the only way i find is to create a fan profil with all time a minimum of 20% fan speed :(
How loud is the fan if set to 20%?

Sounds a lot like the MSI GTX970 fan issue. When coming out of idle, one fan would be stuck at 100% and one at 0% until you gave it a small nudge. Fixed it with a custom fan profile, keeping the fans at a minimum of 30%. Was a hardware issue, I could have RMA'ed my card.

What is it with cheap fans these days?

I don't hear mine until it's higher than 65%.

The MSI would be quieter because it has two larger fans. At around 60% the Gigabyte is quite audible.

I don't think the fans are cheap or low quality, I think it's the BIOS at fault. When the fans are idle, then spins, a noise occurs when the fans spin up, the real problem is that this noise is occurring too much, I'm beginning to wonder if it's present on all Gigabyte cards or if it's a batch problem. Mine was bought on amazon. I live in the Caribbean so the ambient temperature is higher than normal.

Well my previous card was also from gigabyte (gtx 970 g1 gaming) and it worked really well. Not to hot under load, good performance and it was fairly quiet.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Our R&D was indeed able to replicate the issue and will shortly publish a new BIOS that solves this on our website.
Same problem here. Fans spinnig strongly up and down betwenn fan speed 1% to 16%. Pretty noisy.
Looking forward for the new BIOS.

Lol patience, re-writing a Bios in amongst all the other priority tasks they have may well take a little longer than 4 working days.

1.: Then maybe Mr. Gigabyte shouldn´t write "shortly"?
2: Maybe repairing a faulty BIOS should be their priority. I don´t think that the heavy up- and downspinning of the fans is a very good thing for the longevity of those.

"Shortly" is fairly subjective do you not think? I don't necessarily disagree with you around priority but in context for them the issues they have with one models fans that may have only a few hundred sales in relation to everything else in their portfolio may be small, I am sure they will have queue's....... as I said, just trying to be subjective, personally in the world of any AIB manufacturer and support I don't think 4 working days is a lot, but again that's my opinion and you of course are are entitled to yours.

Edit: I would have to admit, if I owned one of them I too would want the solution pretty quick!

I don't think I've experienced this issue, but to me "shortly" coming from an OEM would mean a week or two for an updated vBIOS.

I can wait, I don't want any company rushing a BIOS release for obvious reasons.

The custom fan curve is a good fix for the problem as I've said earlier.

I do check this thread daily to see if the new BIOS has been released.

I'm asking for an update from R&D. They told me the BIOS was ready and was undergoing testing.

I got confirmation that a BIOS will be posted in our website tomorrow.
Please provide more feedback.

Just signed up to say behavior like this from a Gigabyte really increases my chances of buying my future 1080Ti from Gigabyte. Support is wayyy more important to me than a couple of % performance.

Problem solved for me, good job. Thanks Gigabyte. 10/10, would buy again.

But now the utility, version 1.05 XTREME GAMING ENGINE, seems to be bugged:
- Fan curves in "turbo" und "silent" are too low and strange. "Turbo" is even lower than "auto"?
- The software now overclocks with +50 MHz in "OC- Mode", before it was +26 MHz? Don´t know if this is intended?
- And it tries to autoupdate to the same version (1.05) all the time when starting, allready beeing up to date..?

Anyway. Thanks for the new BIOS solving the fan spikes.

We are actively working on this software. If you've been keeping track we've gone from 1.03, 1.04 and now 1.05 within one week.
I will feedback this to Taiwan right now.
Anything else?
