Got duped. Asus strix 1080 gtx!

Hi,

I had ordered EVGA FTW from an online shop but they have stock issues and they cannot give an estimated delivery.

They had in stock ASUS gtx 1080.

They said whether they could send me another 1080 and i said yes (asus strix which was in stock).

I just realized that this strix is clocked at the founders 1607 mhz!

The shop is not to blame. I bame asus.

My question is whether i got a shitty card and whether i can oc it to the other card's speeds. What do you think guys?

Yes you can, as all these cards basically clock to roughly the same levels. You can expect both to hit up to 2100mhz.

I wouldn't worry about the clocks. If you're not benchmarking night and day, you wouldn't notice the difference.

Hmm.
I honestly don't see what's the problem. All the cards here are strix asus. They may have different clocks but that doesn't matter. It's the same card with the same cooling system which is very good. OC your card to whatever clock rate you want. (well oc to a safe point) You can go way higher than the strongest stock OC Asus Strix bro

Actually it's pretty easy to find out, all those 3 cards have a different SKU :

ROG STRIX-GTX-1080-O8G-GAMING = highest boost clock, 1759
ROG STRIX-GTX-1080-A8G-GAMING = 2nd highest boost clock, 1670
ROG STRIX-GTX-1080-8G-GAMING = standard boost clock, 1607

I think his point is that everyone reviews the O8G but then local shops likely shovel plain 8G.

Nobody can answer the overclock question -- you just have to see if you won the silicon lottery or not. Frankly I think you are better off with the stock clock model, where you can do all overclocking yourself, or let it run at stock as nv designed. Likely you can flash the bios of the other strix to your strix if you really want to have some hw fun.

The Strix series have always been so confusing. You really have to look by exact model number to be sure what you're buying. When I was buying my Strix GTX 980 I had to really carefully pick one in an online store with the correct clocks. I think there were 4 models at the time with different base and boost clocks.

It's always the wisest choise to get the cheapest model (if the cards are otherwise the same, but only with different clock speeds), and overclock it manually, and buy beer for example with the saved money.

I think the consensus is right on the money. Pretty much everything I've seen on gp104 says the overclocks are largely identical on a card per card, small variations here and there that are accounted for in the silicon lottery. Some of the review sample founders cards are clocking the highest, but the difference is meaningless in real-world performance, 2000mhz is 2070 is 2100 and the difference between them amounts to margin of error difference in tests.

I wanted to buy the STRIX-GTX1080-O8G but it wasn't in stock ....the only card was the STRIX-GTX1080-8G i just bought .. and all what i had to do was changing the clock speeds to match the O8 specs in asus page .. temperature , boost speed ..etc are the same as you saw in the reviews
it is so easy that u just pull the bars in afterburner to match the speed u want..

I got myself 2 Strix 1080-8G the ones with no OC, it won't matter much as they are all the same card, Just a BIOS with an overclock, if you want you can flash it.
