Shopping for a second 980 Ti and realized EVGA is selling EVGA 06G-P4-3997-KR for $389.99 after MIR. But how is EVGA 06G-P4-3997-KR different then a regular EVGA 980 Ti Classified (06G-P4-4998 which cost lot more) besides the REF clock speeds on 3997 SKU?

Can I expect this cheaper REF SKU to have EXACT same cooler/board design as a regular 980 Ti Classified which does come with 14 GPU+3 MEM phase etc?

Newegg/Amazon has it for sale as well but under a slight different SKU but it does not provide much information.

To me if seems like EVGA is clearing their inventory and selling Classified Ti with a Reference BIOS clock under cost. If so I should be able to just flash it to regular Classified clock?

I would be very careful and make absolutely sure that everything on the PCB is the same, including the memory phases, before buying it and hoping it is the same.

Based on what MSI did, I'd say it's likely. I bought a 980Ti LE. It turns out everything, from capacitors to chokes to phases was exactly the same, it was merely clocked at reference speeds...and alot cheaper. It overclocks to 980Ti Gaming OC speeds easily.

You're right, it is all likely just inventory clearance time!

Glad to hear your lightning version has the exact same PCB. I missed the opportunity to purchase LE (Lightning being one of my fav variant of 980 Ti) or MSI Golden Edition when they had excellent price tag on them. I think for $389, Classified Ti is outstanding deal considering it is the same card with just a different BIOS.

In the mean while ill keep my fingers crossed and place an order. On monday ill call EVGA and hopefully I can get a clear cut answer.

Seems like EVGA has spec sheet on 06G-P4-3997-KR and under description it is missing few Key features (such as 8+8pin Power Input - Dedicated 600W, 14+3 Power Phases) unlike the regular Classified version. I am hoping the SPEC sheet is just missing information.

I was hoping to find someone with personnel experience with this SKU.

Lol, noo, I wish I had a lightning edition. But my story only made sense because it is a Light Edition, having the same specs other than clocks of the higher grade version.

That's why I was saying you may be lucky to find the same thing is happening on the EVGA side. They likely will not advertise it much and make you work to find out, like I had to with MSI.

I wish I did know, so I could give you a definate abswer. I wish you luck tho!
