Windows 10 gremlins.

I have the free upgrade from Windows 7 now on both my PC's. The are both Win 10 home. I am generally happy with 10 but the stinking gremlins in it is driving me nuts!

I disable system restore and check back after awhile and it is re-enabled. Same thing with the windows driver dl option. I set it to NO do not dl mfg. drivers, but it re enables its self. The screen saver is another. It will stay with my settings for quite awhile then it gets disabled to "none" a lot of times. This happens to both my rigs. ARGH!

Anyone else experience this BS? Is it just me? Is there a fix?

It's not "gremlins" (though it might as well be), it's the core "build" updates. They reset all sorts of settings for me too whenever they update a build. System restore and fast startup are the worst: They turn themselves back on nearly every update.

I just have gotten used to it I suppose.

I've got Win10 on all machines that can run it and besides how stupidly unstable windows explorer is, it's pretty nice.

I have zero issues and lengthy uptimes with no errors in log. Can't say I have anything to really complain about, but also, I change little when it comes to options.

Yeah, whenever a build update happens, things get reset for sure. I have yet to have any problems with system start-up options, however. Your post even made me check.

System restore I actually use, so no complaints.

I just turned that silly thing off, it has never come back on. I do also have my monitor set to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity though. There was a point some time ago that watching Netflix in a window would let the PC fall asleep, but that doesn't happen any more, fortunately.

Yeah, noticed that shit too. I know i turned off most of the what people call data collecting crap to find some turned back on.

@GLD What you want is the free O&O ShutUp10 which turns off all this crap and is user configurable. I'm surprised that no one has suggested it yet. Been running it on my Windows 10 for months and it's great.

Classic Shell is also great for getting back a proper Start menu.

On a side note about Windows 10 installing things , I noticed a new folder in both the Program Files and Program X86 folder called CMAK after a recent usual Windows 10 update. I though it was malware and tried to delete it, but it was locked. I had to use unlocker to get rid of it but it came right back after doing a sfc /scannow scan and repair. I Confirmed its the sfc scan making it comeback so definitely a Microsoft folder

I can sift through what the updates say, but they never mention what funky wizardry it put's on your C drive, i would also be weirded out by seeing that.

Knowing me though i would delete system32, come here and cry that i have to install Win 10 again.

If you are still having issues GLD you might try a fresh format. I have had issues with the upgrade but fresh OS reinstalls have gone great.
