Windows 10 HDD issues.

Hi.
I have read that windows 10 has a problem with HDD's. I have noticed a strange behavior with my Samsung 1TB black disk. It would seem that the disk is shutting down and you can hear constant clicks like it was waking up from a sleep state. When watching a movie it is most noticeable when video hangs and picture is damaged trying to catch up. Of course you can hear clicks again.
Has anybody noticed that behavior with his own disks? Not sure how to fix it. There's an update from Microsoft with description of fixes although it doesn't match mine problem. Any ideas??

Install Intel RAID/AHCI driver and set APM/AAM from CrystalDiskInfo (or other program). There's a bug (feature?) in some versions of the IRST driver that resets the APM/AAM setting each boot. I had this problem with my Samsung F3's.

I'll try that. Every time I use my PC I'm worried that something will crash for good and my disk will get damaged. Thank god I done have that problem with my 2 vertex 3 SSDs.

My Seagate 500GB works so quietly and so smoothly on Windows 10 . I didnt choose it , it was in my laptop

It is a USB 3.0 external hdd of Samsung , isnt it ?

power settings in windows, crank up the idle timer for hard drives to 60 minutes or so.

Constantly clicking noises sounds like a possibly failing drive. Run a health check on it.

This clicks are not because of drive failure. It's more like when it wakes up from a sleep mode, starts up then the click happens. it started after upgrading from win 7 to win 10. Instantly. The problem is that it goes to sleep mode all the time. I have switched off the option for sleep mode to never. But it happens. I don't want to get that HDD damaged. I need to try the new driver and see what happens then.

Well i have done like you said just a minute ago. I can still hear the clicks. Maybe it is time to change the HDD before my current one hits the brick ?

Every one has a different point of view how to see things, if i hear some clicks that come from my HDD/SSD believe me i won't be wasting time trying to fix it because when it dies it will be too late.

To change the Raw values from Hex numbers to decimal numbers, go to Function > Advanced Feature > Raw values > 10 [DEC]
SMART data aren't always right but I have heard that WD is doing better than Samsung.

Anyawy, it says you have 27 Read Error. It is okay if you have such number growing gradually from the years of use but if it just showed those errors in few days then I will keep watch on them to see if they keep growing.
I can't see the other attributes mate. In general, your Hard drive seems to be okay but giving the symptom you observed, I would act fast about it just in case.

I'll check that too. I wonder if i roll back my system to win 7 ultimate. I remember that on win 7 it has never happened before. No problems whatsoever and now it's kinda weird. Don't want to get my disks damaged. Maybe when the problem is solved with microsoft I will install win 10 again.

I've also run all the tests in the seatool. all tests passed with 100% but each time i start a test i hear click.

COULD this be due to backup schedule and old restore points? A conflict between 2 OS's dual boot?

Clear old restore points?

Was it a clean install of W10 or Upgrade?

I thought Seatools had a repair feature in Advanced mode- FixAll-Long. You may want to try that. It scans the entire drive.

Please mate, don't double posting, you can just edit your post. (it is against the rules too).
Here is things you can try:
1- Check if the SATA cable not plugged correctly.
2- Use another SATA port/controller
3- Change the SATA cable.

I didn't wanted to double posting but i couldn't for some reason edit the post and paste the screenshot,
It was upgraded but i will re-image my OS back to win 7 and see if it occurs then. If not i will get the win 10 image back or wait for fix of that problem. The cables are brand new. I have switched them and use different ports with no luck.
I still hear the clicks while watching a movie the video gets distorted and the click is there. i tried to refresh the crystaldiskinfo app as frequently as possible and no clicks but when i leave it and let the video play i can hear it. Even when i start the program it clicks,
what i also found out is.
When i refresh myself it doesn't click but waiting 5 sec and hitting refresh then the click occurs. So i assume it has something to do with sleep mode?
maybe there's some issue with that??

Yeah i have noticed there are no errors. It must have been the win 10 problem with disks. Anyway i have re-imaged my OS back to Win 7. no clicks no nothing. Everything is awesome

I will run it for a while and see if there's a problem. When the HDD problem on win 10 gets fixed i will go back to win 10
