Removing Windows

I am wanting to remove windows from my SSD. My SSD is only 120GB and program files automatically install there, I have tried changing directories to another drive but it eventually messes something up. So now I will be installing windows to onto my HDD and the SSD will be the second drive.

Does anyone have some advice on how to completely remove windows from my SSD?
Thanks.

They are many ways. The easiest if use the windows disk and act like you are installing. Custom install and then delete the partitions. The just shut the power off or create another clean partition
You can also use Diskpart
You can use a Linux live disk

But I would install Windows on the SSD, then the few programs you need. Games you might want on a separate drive

The biggest advantage of an SSD is a fast start up

If you install windows on HDD and then you find system files ( Boot File System ) on the SSD then that means the HDD is not the primary ( not connected to SATA port 0) and through BIOS , so either make the HDD the primary or disconnect the SSD while installing windows ..... then you can format the SSD cause it's not gonna have any of the recent installed windows , I have dual boot system each of them has 100% of its data isolated because I installed windows on each of them while the other is disconnected .

If you install windows on the HDD completely disconnect the SSD. Then after the install is complete reconnect it. Then delete the SSD partition from Disk Manager

When ever you install Windows. Only have the system drive connected. Connect the others after the installation

I would disconnrct the ssd . Install Windows on the hdd and all things in BIOS . the hdd must be the first boot device . Then connect the ssd .After booting from the hdd , format the ssd .

A waste how? My SSD is used for games now and it makes GTA V run a lot faster.

Because most people, yes, even gamers, want a responsive system, and a system that starts up quickly.

Most (yes, I know not all) people don't find that game loading times are such a priority that their life will change if it's not SSD quick.

In my case It takes 3 seconds for my PC to get to desktop with HDD. For games like GTA V having an SSD can make a big difference.

I don't disagree with the SSD for maps. They do take time. But your PC does not boot in 3 secs. More like 35. The fastest boot time Ive ever seen is 11 sec. And that is with a SSD

If it's possible always install games on SSD, not only system and programs. Believe me, I have 1TB SSD because of the games so I don't have to reinstall them so often.

well i have my OS and main software on a 120gb SSD 2 games i use quite often on a 60gb SSD my whole STEAM/Origine/GoG/Uplay library on a 1tb 7.2k rpm HDD (and a second for media) ... none of the games i have on HDD are slow enough to justify a SSD but my OS and soft does ...

for instance Armored warfare (texture streaming mostly) did benefit a little being moved from HDD to SSD .... tho not tremendous result (read "worth it? naaaah... that's infinitesimal." )

I have GTA:V on a HDD, and it runs just fine. Having it on an SSD isn't improving your framerates one bit. All it is doing is improving the initial load time. But at the same time, you're drastically reducing the speed of every other function of your computer to make one, maybe two games load a little faster.

Whenever I tried changing directories it would work well for a small time and then I'd get errors like can't find program or google isn't their.

then you do it wrong o_O i never had any issues of that kind... i set up my path when i install games or softwares and never change them (working for stand alones games/steam or any other like it) and i did that since my 1st win 7 installation and it survived many "dirty swap" reinstall and HDD cloning ... (aka: ~ more than 4yrs ) for Armored Warfare i even relocated the game folder by hand without reinstalling and then specified the new path in the launcher... and it worked right at 1st try.
(that remind me that i have to change the download folder location on the main rig ... and probably swap the 1tb media hdd for a 3tb ... )

"google isn't there" : ???? you mean ????

Did I say it increased FPS? No.
you wrote(said)
it makes GTA V run a lot faster.
which is ... not ... the case "load" faster maybe (but still not by a amount you would notice ... hence the "placebo effect" ).

ps: answer to the question
@JBG123 what HDD you have?

and tested today ... GTA V (using a STEAM account from a friend) on a 7.2k hdd or on the SSD

SSD ( OCZ Vertex III did not test on the Blaze): 27 seconds
HDD ( Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB ): 49 seconds
wow 22 secondes ... that's ... an eternity indeed when you wait on a loading screen (or not ... GTA V isn't exactly ... good) well an eternity if you are more "stuck on the loading screen than actually in the game" and if that's the case, either the game is not good at all or you die/reload save too much  (semi joke)

OS on SSD is the norme if you only have SSD HDD couple (altho if you have trouble to set up path and folder on 2 drives .... don't do like i do with 2 SSD 2 HDD and at last 6 custom path set up )

on my Alpha i have only 1 8gb/1tb SSHD (the 2 other are external and only for media ) altho that screenshot is not to show that but rather the option in win 10 (although you didn't mentioned which version you use atm ) i never used that ... even on the main rig ... i noticed that today while seartching storage option on win 10

I was talking about redirecting with regedit so it's the default install place is always on D drive. I think you're talking about doing it manually each time.

But I think I'm going to put Win 10 back on my SSD now, Jesus people on the internet are relentless.

i don't have to redirect it manually every time, i set it up once and for all and it does not change (~4yrs remember ) and even 1 time manual relocation work perfectly ie: my uplay win 7 install was on a secondary drive ... i installed win 10 then when i installed uplay i thought: "sh!t i have to re download FC4" well ... nope just re-pointed the install directory to the old one (just like with STEAM or Origin also ) no further step included ... regedit? no wonder you can't make it work ... (to me it's the "you do it wrong" by excellencies ) you quoted only the 1st part but did you read the rest ;)

Jesus people on the internet are relentless.
well ... you did ask for help, but if most people see the way you're taking is not the most optimal: they try to help, nonetheless feel free to ignore and keep the SSD for GTAV (urk...) and HDD for win 10
