hey guys I got this problem with the 1070!

I get really bad fps on pretty much every game. e.g in need for speed I should have 90 fps but it stays around 60-70 let alone the hangs to 15 for couple of seconds.

I tried everything I found on the internet like:
reinstalling correctly the drivers + installing the hot fix driver from NVidia.
adjusting the control panel vsync etc.

is my gpu faulty?

my specs are fx-8350
8 gb ram gskill
860w corsair psu

ps I just tried with everything on low on need for speed and I got like 10 fps more!

AND THE SOLUTION IS......
SHUT DOWN NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL!

at least that worked for me!(for lag spikes)

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!!!

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
latest driver for me and my 1070, all games working like a charm... (dirty swap from a 980 without DDU or clean driver install and then 368.69 at the very end )

since i have no issues whatsoever i can't really help, but i did read about "fast sync" somewhere and iirc that failure of a feature (introduced by nvidia with the 10XX series ) seems to be the culprit, still i don't know if you did find something about it.

also >>in before<< : "it's your CPU the bottleneck" (if my 6600K hold it ... a 8350 can also hold it )

i changed from r9 270x i even formated my pc so the drivers must be correct (368.95) however when it installed the drivers it didn't ask for a restart. is that an nvidia thing? ofc i restarted but no change in he results!

btw if i understand correctly my cpu is bottlenecking the gpu?
cause AAA gamesnever get my cpu above 80 %

So you formatted your entire PC just for installing a new GPU? man...how drastic :p
What I would do first is test some other games out if you have them, or some benchmarks etc.
See if the results of those match up to general benchmark results from various websites testing the GTX1070.

If it there shows that yours is under performing I would indeed suggest getting a replacement.
If however that does match up, maybe something is up with Need for Speed rather then the card.

whcih benchmarks should i use?

btw i ended up formating my pc!
however the problem is not the low fps but the lag spikes in all games no matter low or high graphics sudden drops to 15 makes games unplayable. games that even the 270x handled fine

post a valid link

any performance caps reported by GPU-Z ?
Check the CPU temp , for throttling / overheating

ok i was wrong about the gpu usage. the problem is i get lag spikes in every game even on low settings. that cant be a cpu bottle neck
my guess was something wrong with the drivers but i think i did everything on that part! do you guys have any ideas why this is happening?

Steps:
- Check Fast Sync settings in the Nvidia config panel. Turn it off and try gaming.

- Check CPU temps, and maybe even open your case and see how hot the VRM section around the CPU gets. Also touch your CPU heatsink at load, it should be quite warm (if its not, the CPU has a bad mount) If too hot to touch, that's worth investigating further. Does your FX have an OC?

- Lag spikes on low settings = system pushes high FPS on GPU, but CPU holds it back, or something else. Lowering settings does little to lower CPU load, for most games - it can actually increase it because for every frame, the CPU needs to do work. Lower FPS = lower CPU load. Higher potential FPS = maxed CPU load.

- How are your HDDs? Storage access issues in-game can cause short-time freezes as the system retries accessing the disk. Read out your storage's SMART data and look for issues.

1. vsync is off. no changes

cpu temps are ok 60c the gpu gets to 70 but thats far from 90 to throttle

the thing with lag spikes is that i just changed my gpu nothing else! i had the r9270x without lag spikes same settings with 1070 =lagspikes

the hdd that i have my games on is wd black 2 years old

but then again as i said, just changed the graphics card and lag spikes appeared!

Yeah, so get serious about finding the issue :) You can't dismiss everything by saying how old it is. Check that SMART data for your storage.

The reasons for lag spikes can be varied, so we need to narrow it down. CPU temps @ 60 can still mean you have hot VRM, but your cooler is mounted OK. Hot VRM sections can cause throttling and CPU is suspect because the 1070 will put a much higher load on it than your previous GPU.

so i run this bench as a sum of my pc

hope the link works http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/1428012

there it says something about the ram gonna check bios now!

You can run a memtest, but my personal experience with that is pretty weak as far as troubleshooting goes. If RAM was OK before, it doesn't usually suddenly go bad. It's just a favorite 'go-to' solution to narrow down issues (on new builds, RAM issues are very often the problem because of a DOA ram stick or slot on the mobo, but your build ain't new).

PS: I didn't mean Vsync (Vsync doesn't cause spikes generally) but *Fast* Sync, the new Pascal feature.

i will try to clean the pc from dust tomorrow to see if that helps
thank you for all the help guys!

62C is the max temp for FX 8350 , as far as i remember . Lower the temp and check again . i mean stock clocks again

Dont worry too much about FX 8350 . It s still not so bad . Just we must find the exact issue

My guess is FX 8350 - not very good for great gaming
Do some benchmarks CPU/GPU and compare

If the monitor is 60Hz and V-Sync is on

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_1070_g1_gaming_review,21.html
nope ... 8350 is enough
little example: i had a FX-6300 paired with a R9 290 and then i switched to a i5-4690K, huge leap? nope not at all ... only a slightly better minimal fps

btw if i understand correctly my cpu is bottlenecking the gpu?
nope, i was just joking on the fact that someone was bound to make a remark like that later on ... and it didn't had to wait too long ... 4th post in the thread :D

@takomako oopsies ... i forgot the latest driver is the 368.81, 368.95?? isn't that the beta driver? those who don't integrate the DPC latency fix (among other things)
try to revert to 368.81 (or .69 since they work nicely for me) nvidia is not good with drivers ... a contrario of what some people say.

i always use the latest on TPU never on geforce.com ... can't trust them  ;) (semi joke ... but with nvidia i mostly had to rollback 2 or 3 driver every 5 driver release because of random issues, which never happened with ATI/AMD)

FX 8350 is not bad as performance but is far from great ! Along with a high end GPU , i7 6700K is 50% faster than FX 8350

well sometime a 4C/8T like a 6700K can also have performances losses in gaming (related to HT ) and ... 1070 is not 1080 and not a high end ;) paired with a i5 or FX 6300 at last it can run flawlessly (the performance rating you show is not really explicite of real life situation) for the price ... a 8350 is king, over a 6700K (altho i prefer the 6600K... more relevant for gaming only )
another example, with the R9 290 i also had a Xeon E3-1275v2 and a i7-4770K did i notice a huge leap over the 4690K or the FX-6300? again... nope not really (even ran into an HT related performances loss ) ofc lower fps were a little higher and more stable

but this is not the problem, we still need to find what cause the OP's trouble (and it's not the CPU specially if a R9 270 was able to produce higher result ... or if my i3 + GTX860M can do same ... the issue is elsewhere )

i would like to see @takomako trying the revert from .95 to .81 or .69 in the driver section to confirme something

FX 8350 is no king at all ! Neither for price nor for performance . I hope Zen to be !
Where is the catch for FX 8350 . Need more expensive cooling/mobo/PSU ! Why ?

I dont want to keep this discussion . The real thing is we already got FX 8350 here .

*removed the video kind of censorship : bad language

well that video show minor differences ... even to my 6600k  for witcher 3 or other than GTAV (is not a good example for me ... 1 game is not a generality ) as long as the 8350 get 30fps and above he's fine, if he can maintain constant 60fps then even better also ... CPU bound rarely happen out of MMO or RTS games
ps: 168chf for a 8350 or 319chf for a 6700K or 249chf for a 6600K since a i7 is unneeded for gaming and a 8350 keep itself around a i5 (more a 3570K than a 4690K or 6600K tho but not far away) yep a king in price to perf (your opinion is yours ofc. ) i rather take a 8350 over a similarly priced intel CPU (which would be a i3-6320) even if my alpha use a i3-4130T but that's for other reason

if you didn't wanted to keep this discussion : you wouldn't have removed the previous post and posted that, which show that real life situation see lesser variance

again ...
