Games with amazing graphics?

When I was still learning about PC things around 1999. I played starwars pod racer running in brandmart usa of all places and it blew my mind away.Had a joystick, fairly big crt, loud speakers clear sound.
at 1:25 is when surreal-ness hit me.That was pretty amazing graphics for that time.

s.t.a.l.k.e.r shadow of chernobyl was really impressive when that came out. Nvidia 8000 Series days along with Crysis.

The whole STALKER series really had amazing graphics. And the lighting and effects still hold up well today.

I need get back in it actually..never actually finished the game,i was way too scared to play it at the time haha..but i think i can make an attempt now i'm bit more confident in playing horror games.

System Shock 2 with Hi-Res textures and Hi-Res models. I still can't believe that game is 17 years old. The fake bump mapping gives it illusion of being at least 10 years younger. And the dynamic lighting. It's crazy.

I didn't even know there were Hi-rez textures for it! I'll have to look when I get home.

Quite a few Final Fantasy games are good looking.

It really does get more and more brilliant as you continue. Lots of hidden gems as well. The only one I actually finished was CoP though...

Hi-res textures mod is called SHTUP and hi-poly models are in Rebirth which you probably already know. It's amazing how scalable the Dark Engine is. From blurry textures to textures so sharp they make new games look ugly. Same with model detail. I've never seen such transformation in any old game. Not even Blue Shift hi-res models for Half-Life 1, though they've improved things considerably.

I remember running that on pentium 2 cpu with TNT 2 graphics card on Windows 98 lol ... it had good sense of speed but definitely not the best graphics from that era, that award goes to unreal series

Oh, just remebered as you two were mentioning this. Try game Ballistics. It's a hypersonic racing game where you use hoverbikes to race within tube race tracks at mach 5. The game is so fast it doesn't even matter how graphics look like, you won't have time to admire them anyway XD Basically it's a bob sledge at insane speeds. I remember it looking quite nice when I had time to admire it's graphics. Colorful and fast is how I'd describe it.

One of the most [current] amazing games graphically is StarWars Battlefront. I would compare it to the original Crysis back in the day (although it won't cripple your rig like Crysis could)- Yes I know the game is shallow and gets old quick, but I'm only talking about the graphics. In 4k with a GTX 1080 and all settings maxed this game is truly stunning. Especially the forest level. Just amazing, almost photo-realistic.

For me the first Crysis blew my mind it was the best I have ever seen in graphics.

Then more games come out the look as good or better but my favorite will be Crysis made my 8800GTX cry

I do not think there is any noticeable advantage for DX12 over DX11 in this game, at least eye candy-wise. If you have a new nVidia GPU however, you can enable VXAO in DX11 which adds some realistic shadows, and for some reason this option is not there if you enable DX12.

Dayum, I still remember my Ti 4200 fondly!! They just don't give you that much bottled up performance anymore.
