The reason for the CPU usage is in your title and correlates 100% to what I his said your machine is using memory compression which is eating cpu cycles. It's compression after all. This is what im talking about that's why I said read about it.

A few weeks ago my openSUSE (Linux) box upgraded nvidia drivers, and it ripped through my 16GB of ram and was swapping like mad after 48 hours. Luckily there was another nv driver update in a couple days, and all was well again. Problem isn't exclusive to Windows! Not the first time to happen to the NV linux driver either.

see my sig, setup the windows update tool there (disable auto updates, manually use the tool later)

it should fix the issues - even if there are no updates available, windows still takes a stupid amount of resources just to scan for them sometimes.

I highly doubt it's caused by Windows Update. The process is very specific about what it does.

Windows updates makes backups of the previous files so you can uninstall them - and it compresses those backups.

Updating things like dotnet does very similar with cleanup services, so it definitely could be related - it's just time delayed.

Check that Windows didn't change the driver version behind your back.

It didn't. The weird thing is that I just decided to try upgrading to the latest driver (same one I was using when this first started), and it immediately solved my problem. Seems like there something finicky in the drivers that only rears its head after a certain amount of time.

Memory leak may take a certain # of hours/days to chew through your system memory and make the issue known.
