K so I know my mobo sucks for CPU overclocking (can get like 5% i think max) but is it the same for GPU?

How well your GPU will overclock depends on the GPU itself mostly and you need a good PSU.

So it can OC the same? I heard a OC'd 960 performs similar to a 970 so would mine be able to do that if the GFX card could?

Overclocking motherboard/CPU and Overclocking a Discrete add on Graphics card are different procedures

I thought it depended on the MoBo, so I'm surprised and I guess it's fine if I overclock my card. Thanks!

Don't waste your money on a 960, get a 1060.

A very highly overclocked 960 will not even come close to a 970. For just a little more than the price of a 960 you could buy a GTX 1060, an RX 480, or an R9 380X. Even the 380X will perform noticeably better than a 960.

What I'm thinking is a 1060 is a little overkill for my 1080p 60hz monitor but I don't really want to wait for the 1050. (1060 does 80+ fps ultra on battlefield 1)

and 480 isn't much cheaper than the 1060 here atm so I'd rather have the 1060 anyway

but since I mainly play Blizzard games a 960 might be fine? Do you think the Zotac 960 4g amp! is a ok card? I saw a youtube video of a gtx 960 doing 60 fps on high playing Battlefield 1 which would be fine

I'd like 970ish performance but the prices are still really high even more than 1060

anyone got a idea when the 1050 might come out?

A 970 is about 1.5 time as fast as a 960. If you are lucky you'll get a 15% overclock on a 960, so bit even close to 970ish performance.

I have a 960 in my main rig, but only because I sold all my good cards right before Pascal dropped. I owned 3 970s and a 980ti, the 960 I have does 1500MHz and it doesn't hold a candle to the 970.

Yeah I agree that's what I was hoping a 470 or 1050 would be similar to we'll have to see though

But also what's with the DVI port on the 1060? my monitor is using a DVI-I (Dual Link) and the port on the 1060 looks like a DVI-D (Dual Link) would I not be able to use the cord I have atm into the card? and is their a difference?

I once had motherboard that was capable of overclocking a discrete graphic card. Not sure how they were doing. I think it was on Gigabyte GA965P-DS3. I just flipped a switch in motherboard BIOS and my Leadtek 7600GT had higher clocks.

DVI-D has a straight slot on one end and DVI-I has a slot and pins in a cross shape so wont fit.

It also should have HDMI and D-Sub (analogue)
DVI-I carries analogue signal too from memory, where DVI-D doesn't.
Use a HDMI cable and you can continue to enjoy all that goodness.
