GP100 was supposed to be GTX 1080/Ti ...
I blame AMD for all this.

Titans never had full fp64 compute. AMD has been better in compute since first gen GCN.
Original kepler titans do. Their FP64 to FP32 ratio is 3-to-1, same as kepler teslas.

And 99% of people who buy the top of line GPU still will not use it for one of its highly intended purpose---VR. Yep people would shell out $1000+ on a GPU but not so much for VR.
VR doesn't take that much right now. I've been doing all VR on a Maxwell Titan X since the consumer version headsets released. On the other hand, it's faster than a 1080 and is pretty damn close to 4k single card playable. So yea, people buy this for gaming.

People still buy these for gaming knowing well that a Ti variant will obviously be out soon?
If the past repeats itself, the Titan X will still be faster than the TI variant if only by a smidge like before. The people who can afford it will want that.

No reseller allowed...then $1199? NVIDIA is pushing too far! So to speak as a Nvidia fan using a Maxwell Titan X
Before Nvidia sold them for 999 and etailers marked them up to 1200. IMO they are just following suit and controlling flow of stock.

Meh, as someone who can afford it, I can't buy something that depreciates so quickly and/or gets "replaced" by a very similar product in a few months.

Every titan so far was pretty much redundant for gamers within 3 months, so why even bother.
If you wanna blame someone for the price, blame the competition, anyway.

Again the same song ! Steal parts customer will not see below cooler . However, this it looks like manufactured in garage . it is not even expected product . Once again we were fucked and 200$ is more expensive than the already retardet ! price over killing . Who will sue the nVidia for misleading the public ! selling steel, but you get the iron . Closer to 1080ti You would fall within this card . AMD has a chance !
if he will give a better product. Certainly it will not be the same as it pulled out of ass !

You're mistaken. You don't accumulate wealth by wasting it.

Same tiring argument, but not surprising.

Indeed. I tell our local suppliers this; Just because I can afford it, doesn't mean I should buy it for prices I know aren't correct. I suppose it's easier for people that inherit their riches instead of having to building it up. :)

So I just noticed the transparent side window open up to the aluminum fins. Is this supposed to be a new trend? Transparent Chassis panel and now transparent GPU cooler panel? They should at least show part of the PCB instead of the gigantic heatsink.

Then might as well not buy any hardware that will be depreciated beyond return margins within 6 months to a year. They're computer parts, not cars. If you can't afford a loss you can't afford the cost.

Even within the realm of computer parts and many other genres there is this thing called value. Value is subjective. In my brain I feel cards priced in this segment are of low value. These are things as a working adult I stay away from due to having something called financial sense. You either understand that or you dont. In your case, going by what you say, you clearly dont. Thats fine. I dont feel its my place to demean someone by good or bad thinking on your finances.

I understand that and the phrase being tossed around. You can't say you can afford it then use the excuse of being a working adult. You can either afford it, or you cannot. If you have to justify yourself that much to "afford" it then you can't really afford it. You're not the target demographic for this product. It's like, I can make the payments on a 400,000 dollar house, but I'd be broke if I did it therefor I cannot afford it. Capiche? Cards in this bracket aren't meant for value, they're meant for those who have the pockets deep enough to keep buying them on each release.

Edit: I'll say this, we can argue those semantics all we want but it comes down to this. There's a difference between having 1200 bucks in your account, and being able to spend that 1200 bucks without caring or the need to justify value to cost. Just like there's a difference between being broke from paying off financial responsibilities and being broke from wasting your money getting turnt (or whatever).

It's not concern, it's defining the definition of afford in the sense spoken. If you can't afford it don't whine about value when others can and definitely don't care about value. The original topic was you asking about people buying these knowing the Ti is coming. The answer is yes, whether or not you feel it's a "value" for your wallet or not.

Not my problem people make poor financial decisions. Happens more often then not in this bankrupt country. My initial comment was just touching on that fact. People can afford many things yet choose not to buy them. Sorry that upsets you.

It doesn't upset me in the least. My reply to you was fact whether you want to see it that way or not. It's a poor financial decision to buy a new car, but people do it anyways. I doubt seriously they care whether or not you think that. The simple fact is, people will buy these cards knowing the Ti is coming and not care because they can afford to and not look back. End of story. Try and be a troll mod harder please.

lol why are you arguing over a piece of plastic? Who cares if erocker can or cannot afford it. People say things all the time, doesn't mean its true or not.

I'll throw it out there for the sake of semantics. I can buy 10 of these cards, there there!!

At $1200 there is no doubt, it is an unnecessary luxury item. Looking forward to the monster Heaven scores in the owner's thread! Better make 1920x1080, 2560x1440, and 3840x2160 charts this year though (not just 1920).

I could buy all the Titans they make, but wont. Not even 1 interests me. Nothing nVidia has interests me TBH.

Something about 'fools and money being easily parted' ;)

Sadly with zero competition in the highend, they can charge what they bloody well want.
