So i was checking out "Steam Hardware & Software Survey: July 2016" and noticed this:

0.18% users has HTC Vive and only 0.09% Oculus Rift? I mean, i knew VR isn't doing too good, but this made me laugh. Go to some gaming/hardware event, half of time they will be talking of VR, every graphics card release is followed by "owh gosh this is made for VeeeaRrrrrr!"

Why is it like that if users literally has no interest in it? Personally i can't see myself using VR headset for gaming either.

I don't see myself gaming with a VR set (yet) either, however if it's becoming mainstream and really affordable,
I might buy it then and give it a try, but I don't think I would be using it hours on end.
Let's see what VR will cost over 5 years from now.

It's literally first generation consumer hardware, and it's a jarring change in how we interact with computers. I have no idea what you expected. It is coming, but it'll take time.

How much that would be? ~200$?

Well, seeing a GTX 970 as most popular graphics card for over a year i thought gamers could afford VR headset + they already have VR capable PCs. Oculus Rift DK were out for some time too.

I could see myself using VR only to enhance the immersion since you don't see any of the room and stuff in it, just the in-game stuff. I'd still play them with keyboard and mouse though. I've once experienced similar thing when I hooked a 42 inch TV to PC and played Natural Selection 2 on it. All I could see on it was in-game stuff because I had it at monitor distance. But like this, VR is a death to eyesight. Fixed distance of monitors is already a death for eyesight, placing everything even closer with VR will only make things even worse.

And all the VR stuff I've seen so far felt like some really early tech demo presented for a game 15 years ago. All feels clumsy, awkward and basic. I can see ways how they could simply use VR headset only for headtracking and the rest would remain on keyboard and mouse. Imagine FPS games where you could aim and look around independently.

Saying it's just a first generation yadidadida, it's just not. We had VR several times down the computer history and it never took off. And it won't this time around either no matter how everyone is raving about it. It's just too clumsy, expensive and pointless. And the result is showing in Steam hardware stats.

Yeah like how the iPhone failed because Windows Mobile was already a thing and there was nooooo wwwaaayyy to improve on the touch experience? I honestly do not understand this argument at all. See it as a first gen iPhone, or a first gen Android smartphone.

In most countries, HTC VIVE will cost you about 1000$. 1000$ is not affordable, not even close to the 300$ GTX 970
Currently the only reason VR is not as popular is just because it is extremely expensive.
