WTF is wrong with hardware these days?

As I said, till 24 inches it is alright, the larger they are the more they bleed.

I've had el cheapo TN's that do MUCH better, you know, budget 1080p LG's.

i have a cheap Philips 273E3LH (199chf) TN 1080p 60hz 1ms ... i never had any issues with it ...

well Philips ... altho it's an AOC badged Philips ahah... i think if i go 1440p i go AOC 144hz TN type ...

this ^ quality has been going down for quite some time now

higher goes the price lower goes the quality it seems ... cheap one tend to be more reliable (at last to me )

Do note that this isn't backlight bleeding, the problem OP has is called IPS glow. Backlight bleed looks more like this:

And when the IPS glow is this bad you should clearly RMA/replaceme it.

Besides the 2 dead pixels which i never notice the AOCs do damn well. I didn't want to RMA due to TigerDirect being the worst site I've used to buy something. Not taking a chance with them.

The price makes them an excuse for that. But I am a very picky user... as an ex TV set repair technician (they simply died out), my trained eye cannot stand such anomalies... the inner nazi in me always tells me always to fix that or get it out of my sight.

You're absolutely right - but IPS glow is just a 'different name' for the way backlight bleed shows up on most IPS panels It's still a backlight causing unwanted effects. Most likely the cabinet isn't sealed tight enough.

OP - when you push the edges of the monitor gently, does the hue/intensity change? - just out of curiosity.

I've had a Dell IPS U2512h and it had horrible glow as well. It's been happening ever since IPS came down in price, and that was an instant return for me - it's IPS glow that made me go for VA.

I had a look at mine with a black background and bleed is very little, but then i load up camera app on my tablet it shows bleed bad. So image posted probably looks worse then it really is.

when compared to ur other one its clearly noticeable. as said on my IPS 27inch my tablet made it look 100x worse then it is though could be just my tablet that does. Glow/bleed i think is only a problem is if you can notice it which on mine i can't.

Just wanted to say, i have an ACER H223HQ it's not a high end model and never was, however, dropped it 3 times 2 times from about 3-4 feet, and still works no issue, no back light bleed anywhere.

That's the reason I am sticking with VA technology... I never accept poor black levels, that's a no go for me.

Amen! There's a reason I love VA and it's those consistent blacks. Even my generally considered shitty Chinese "Innolux" VA panel outperforms most IPS screens on that front...

Here's the thing. And forgive me if this as been addressed already, but this is NOT a premium monitor. This, for its class, is a budget monitor. The ASUS PG278Q is the premium model, and it is $200 more than the MG279Q. The MG279Q is only $490. Yes, that might seem like a lot for a monitor and you'd expect a premium product, but for the 1440p@144Hz product class, $490 is budget. That literally puts it about $20 more than the off brand Korean 2560x1440@144Hz monitors. That should give you a big tip off about its quality.

So, I think the OP's problem with hardware is they buy budget products in their class, even if they are overall expensive if you compare them to everything else, but expect top of the line in the class too. That just isn't going to happen. I can go buy the cheapest Corvette on the Chevy dealer's lot. And, yeah, I have a car that's faster than most other cards. But I still bought the budget Corvette, and it isn't going to be nearly as good as the top of the line Corvette. Sacrifices have to be made to get that product to be the cheapest option in it's class. That is the situation with this monitor. The backlight was sacrificed to reduce cost, because to some the 144Hz and 1440p resolution are more important and they are willing to accept a poor quality backlight. If you aren't willing to accept a lot of backlight bleed, then prepare to shell out for something more expensive.

Guys, WTF is wrong with hardware these days? Or am I a super lucky to crapy stuff.
Lately what ever I buy I complain about and there is a reason for that.

Yesterday I bought brand new Asus MG279Q - So far I was using Dell P2415Q but since its not top model I understood that it might not have good blacks and colors since its main goal is 4K res.

MG279Q promissed to provide me super quality and gaming experience but it didnt. there are 2 issues.
Backlight is very uneven and in these spots whites are blue or yellow. Playing with controls doesnt help much.

144 Hz is great, everythign is smooth as hell but all other things about this monitor are horrible. I dont want to mention speakers that are worse then in my 10 year old laptop since I use headphones.

Do you guys this I should RMA this monitor? I cant return it so if not RMA Ill proly set it on fire...

The PG278Q is ASUS' high end 1440p@144Hz model. The PG279Q isn't in production anymore.

I've had the PG278Q for a little over a year now... still works great. And it'd better too since it was a little over $800. The bleeding doesn't seem too bad, or it just doesn't bother me as much.
