you can't buy a rx480
and the 1060 is faster, uses less power and its (mostly)instock

in my province it was the other way around, Canada Computers had NO 1060 in stock and only 1 480, im impatient and either is an upgrade from agtx 680 so i pulled the trigger on the 480. Mind you if a 1060 was in stock (actually today they had 2 1060s, 1 for $419 can and the other $359 (zotac mini) ) i would have bought a AIB one say msi or asus. Regardless i am happy with the RX 480 and the performance it provides @ 1080P

I am an AMD and Nvidia gpu owner.

Amd drivers are really crappy nowadays. And the performance/watt for amd is worse than nvidia.

Nvidia have better drivers, better performance for watt, and are more efficient.

nitro+? ok... its a good card, but nahhhh

source of my decision? majority of benchmarks, amd and nvidia gpu owner

DX12? guys...come on... if you want to play dx12 games at top notch resolution, just wait for top notch dx12 gpu's. RX480 and GTX1060 are for users who just want better performance for actual games, or at the most good/medium performance for future games.

Want a DX12 future proof gpu for ultra graphics? wait for them...rx480 and 1060 are not for it.

@

conclusion: GTX1060 is my choice.

Fixed it for you.
I'd also like to say that the poll does not give the option to change a vote, so it is not accurate as peoples sentiments can change over time, particularly after reading reviews.

I said no such thing, I just removed the bias.
They are pretty much equal and both have faults.

This is a very interesting question for me. I upgraded to an R9 380 in January because it consistently held an edge over the GTX 960 in most analyses for the cost of a few more watts and a few less dollars. Yay! Then the RX 480 comes out at $199 in 4GB. Damn. Should have waited. Again. But wait! It's sold out or marked way up after the first wave of supply runs out. Huh. Oh, and here comes the 1060, which seems to beat it overall anyway, but at a higher price than I want to pay.

Conclusion: 4GB RX 480, once custom solutions are available at or below MSRP.

Currently here in my country a 480 costs the same as a 960, 970, 380X, 280X, 390, 390X and the 1060.
Yeah... it's not even funny.

Worse, the 1060 is the cheapest option of them all, at $ (ARS, pesos) 8200, ~U$S547, not counting a 960 at $7950, ~U$S530 (thief, normal ones are around U$S327).
I need to change my vote...

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.
In Sweden the 1060 for sure. The 480 is as expensive. I was hoping the AIB cards would be cheaper, but they are nowhere to be seen.
In DE, only 4Gb versions are.

Anyhow, atm none of the cards is available, neither ref nor AIB.

and their drivers are still utter mess
FFS, what year is it?
Time to stop spreading this BS, dude.

I'd pick up a 269$ 1060 overclock it to 2050 and beat the overclocked 480 in direct x 11 and 12 games.
Cool plan. Except OCed 1060 won't beat even stock 480 in some of them:
https://imgur.com/a/sw5u3#rfPxYci

And even 470 beats it at times, lol:

the right choices for this should be:
"Both are too slow for anything above 1080@60hz and I am playing that resolution already for like 5+ years now - so no thanx, I am not investing in old tech" or
"shyt, my old GPU just broke - I need new one - so I am buying one of these" or
"my concole broke and you know what - I just discovered the "1080@60hz" - wow that is something amazing - I am building a PC and buying one of these" or
"I am chronic benchmark runner - if one of these will give me like 1.21 fps advantage over my previous GPU - I will shed out 250$ with out looking back" and finally
"does its say nvidia/amd ? That is it - I am buying"

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
1060 for the next couple of years until we see greater DX12 and specifically Vulkan market saturation. Those that like the RX 480 are really holding onto a hope/assumption that Vulkan takes off quickly and shows the same gains in Doom across all vulkan enabled titles. In 2-3 years, that may happen... but for now.. 1060. I'll pay the slight premium for better performance in most titles over the life (2-3 years) of the card. ;)

i actually like my 480 because its better then what I used to have :) that and stock of 1060 is still non existent in my city ( well at the same price point of $359 CAN, they have some $389 and $419 1060's in stock and thats kind of a big price difference)

I dont even own DOOM yet, i just like the performance gain over my 2GB GTX 680 (was a great card tho :) )

Dont get me wrong, IF my store had both cards in stock when i had money, i prolly would have went with a 1060 at around $359-79.

Right.. but I think the entire point of this thread was versus each other, not looking back against your previous card... of course you would like either coming from whatever you used to have!

hence my last paragraph, if given the choice AND both were in stock I would have made a different decision :) I was originally going to get a 1060 but pricing and stock here in Kingston, ON is both limited and overpriced IMO.

RX 480 hands down if I were on the market for either card, although I'm not as I am still happy with my R9 290 Windforce card, which only seems to be getting faster and faster with DX12/Vulkan.

The AMD architecture is simply more powerful in DX12/Vulkan, and that's the immediate future. I believe nVidia was simply not expecting DX12/Vulkan when the Pascal chip was on the drawing board, and they've been caught with their pants down. Their GPUs seem to be more energy efficient, but that's because they're missing crucial components, mainly a hardware scheduler and asynchronous compute engines.

Finally, AMD now owns >75% of the overall gaming market (Consoles + PC), and that figure is only set to increase to >90% within the next two years. Game engines are already being optimized for Radeon architecture in the current and next generation consoles first, and nVidia is an irrelevancy to the developers. nVidia is only going to be scrambling more and more to fix games that are broken on their GPUs. My thoughts are greatly explained/expanded up on in this video:

Pricing for GTX 1060 at Canada Computers:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/sear...ords=&manu=0&search=1&ccid=1200&cPath=43_1200

there is more available now, but as I stated before pricing is dumb. The $359 models dont interest me that much as I would like better cooling solutions then the Zotac Mini and EVGA ACX have to offer. The pricing wildly differs after that, STRIX model is $450 CAN !?!?!

RX 480 pricing:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/sear...ords=&manu=0&search=1&ccid=1200&cPath=43_1200

3 reference and 1 AiB. $409 is ridiculous for AiB cooling....

See?

We have no idea except to look back at history and look at how long new API adaptation takes.

Will Vulkan go the way of Mantle? Why or why not? What makes people think that Vulkan is the savior? I thought Mantle was the savior? Help me see the light?!! :")

Vulkan is the savior? Was Mantle the savior?

There is no savior.
It's just a question of finding a value point in the tech that you can afford to buy.
Both "N" & "A" have their strong points. Both of them have weaknesses too.
I like both companies. I like and promote competition amongst them. This is how technological advances come along, and prices stay fairly normal.
I tend to lean towards the NVIDIA camp most of the time, but I just spent over $800 on a couple of AMD based cards. I feel anything but 'saved".

LOL, I'M not saying it was the savior, however, many people back then sure thought so... and we are seeing the same thing today.

I put it up on the 'savior' pedestal as that is really about the only thing going for it in the future... IF Vulkan takes off. Otherwise, its a great card for 1080p, a bit slower than the 1060, and costs less too.

There are some real choices to be made at this level... none of which would I base off of a hunch that a new API will A- take off B- show the same great gains across all/many titles.

Vulkan, Mantle is good for AMD... yea, because AMD is used to work at temperatures that can literally melts the earth (badum tish)...
I do agree that AMD has more potential... but unless one is building a 1080@60hz system in 2016 - I would skip RX 480 and below (of corse also GTX 1060)... mages no sence shed out almost 300$ for nothing.
By the way - they are mining again - that is why rx 480s are out of stock for those ridiculous prices and that is why nvidia or amd wont price cut anytime soon and it is NOT because these (both RX 480 and GTX 1060) are decently priced cards by any means

The RX480 seems a better buy, AMD throws hardware at the problem, hence its superior DX12/Vulkan performance, nVidia seems to keep cutting corners in order to achieve efficiency at cost of too much software tweaks to make them perform. After the Kepler fiasco, I am no longer interested in buying their GPUs.
