Lower FPS with GPU than without

Hi guys. So I was able to play league of legends in the past with integrated graphics at lowest settings and get a stable 60 FPS no problem. I have just picked up a Gigabyte GT 630 Rev 3.0, just for playing league at higher settings. Ever since I installed it, doesn't matter whether I'm running the game at lowest or highest settings, the FPS just hovers around 35-50 FPS and it's really choppy. What exactly could be the problem here?

System:
CPU: Intel Pentium G3220 @3.0 GHz
RAM: 8GB DDR3 @1600 MHz
Motherboard: MSI H81-E33 Military Class 4
GPU: Gigabyte GT 630 Rev 3.0 2GB

EDIT: figured out it's probably not the problem with the card, drivers or settings, it's the game. It lags when it's in borderless mode. I get a solid 60 FPS on windowed and full screen mode, at max settings. This doesn't make any sense to me on why is it happening, and I would also love to play the game in borderless mode because it's so much more convenience.

And you have set PCI-E to primary slot and disabled onboard graphics in Bios?

There should be an option for that somewhere in your bios but varies on different boards.

Ok so, I figured out it's probably not the problem with the card, drivers or settings, it's the game. It lags when it's in borderless mode. I get a solid 60 FPS on windowed and full screen mode, at max settings. I would like to be able to play in borderless mode though. Guess I'm being greedy, but is there any way I can make it so it's stable in borderless mode?

Oh btw, I did install the card all over again, starting with disabling integrated graphics. No difference until I switch the game over to full screen mode.

PCI-E is set to primary graphics adapter, but how do I disable onboard graphics?

It is under Settings\Advanced\Integrated Graphics Configuration.

The first setting is "Initiate Graphic Adapter", you want that set to PEG.
The second setting is "Initiate Graphic Devices", you want that set to Auto.

Then just make sure your monitor is plugged into the GT 630 and you should be fine.

Though, having the iGPU enabled shouldn't cause a problem like this. My iGPU is always enabled and everything works fine.

I almost wonder if this comes down to the G3220 iGPU actually being more powerful than the GT 630. The GT 630 was a pretty weak card, though there were multiple versions of it and some were way better than others.

Is this your card? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4751#ov

Yes, that is the one.
Thanks for the detailed reply, really appeciate it.

If there's no possible way to play the game in borderless mode, I'll just have to deal with it.

That's what I was thinking.

@Epsilon If you can beg, borrow or steal a better card for testing, see if that fixes the performance problem.

I'll do that if I end up really desperate.

@W1zzard Comments 9 & 10 on this thread are backwards - epsilon's reply to my post is before mine. Also, his datestamp is after mine, as you can see. Is there something wrong with the forum software or database?

I installed drivers with GeForce Experience, yes.
Anyone else want the OP to uninstall the graphic's driver and reinstall with only the graphic's driver and omit all of the other stuff that Nvidia loads?)

I don't think it will make any difference. Doesn't hurt to try though.

Absolutely not. I played the Warlords of Draenor quest line and Civ V with the GT530, the same card. It is actually surprisingly capable.

It's the moderation queue, I think that one was my fault as he had multiples waiting to be approved including one that was replying to you, of course you could not see his and I merged them in the queue, looks nice though, #Mindreading.

Oh, so you're the troublemaker. :p

Seriously though, I'd say it's a little bug in the forum software, as it should order the comments in posting order regardless of when a mod approves them. Anyway, glad it's nothing serious.

Yeah, but the Haswell iGPU is reasonably capable too. The GT630 is a Fermi card with only 96 shaders and DDR3... I wouldn't be surprised if the Haswell iGPU was more powerful than that. I mean the 630 is the same as the 530 which is the same as the 430...

I'm trying it as I type. Can't sleep, might as well make myself useful.

EDIT: Good grief, why does it take 20 minutes to download and apply several GBs of patches?

G3220 only has a GT1 iGPU. Even with Gen7 graphics, 10 EUs can only get you so far. I had a G1840 on my hands earlier this year and although the SSD and minimal Windows installation handled the rest, everyday tasks seemed to make GT1 struggle a bit more than I thought it would.

@Epsilon What does GPU-Z say? When you have it open and are running the game, does the load appear to be on the iGPU or the GT 630?

League @ borderless may not be possible at good fps on your specific combination. When a game is picky about being in windowed/borderless/fullscreen there may not be anything you can do about as it varies from game to game (examples would be GTA V's refusal to pick up the FPS unless you alt-tab and back once, and Far Cry 4's pickiness). I don't recall League having many of these quirks but I can't see why borderless would be so advantageous; if fullscreen works then maybe that is your only practical option.

Doing the tutorial Battle Training thing and so far it does 70-80FPS or so with everything maxed out, in both windowless borderless and full screen.

Try to remove the drivers with DDU and reinstall them. Might not work, but it's a thing to try.

@tabascosauz The load seems to be on the 630, varying from 20-35%.

The reason I want to play league in borderless mode is because it's way easier to manage other programs and use overlays such as overwolf replay and twitch chat.

@Frick Thanks, I'll try that.

Have you considered a second monitor alongside it? Or running apps on your phone?

Thing is, if you play competitively, any application besides a simple voice app and especially running borderless, will hurt your latency. I can also imagine that with many apps on the side, that i3 may be maxing out on its threads from time to time.

He has a Pentuim Duel core not a i3 ;)
He should think about getting one though :wtf:

The highest clocked i3 :respect:
