Lets not forget when using VRR maybe same panel but its one monitor that does 144hz using VRR vs one that is limited to 90hz. So that 200$ gets you 54hz higher refresh rate when using its VRR function. They are the same panel... The extra $200 is the G-sync module...oh and it being ROG branded puts some extra on it.
"FreeSync™ technology supported (35Hz-90Hz)" - https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/MG279Q/specifications/ scroll to the bottom under notes section.
No they aren't.
That's funny they share the same specs to the number. The ROG just has higher refresh.

They both are same panel.
Um i think its other way around the 279q is current model and 278 is old one as the 279 is the 165hz panel which is same panel in acer XB271UThis whole discussion is about 1440p 144Hz gaming monitors that are actually readily available on the market...
The PG278Q is ASUS' high end 1440p@144Hz model. The PG279Q isn't in production anymore.
