[WTB] Reasonable Graphics Card

I'm upgrading an older pc. Current specs for it are a core2quad, just purchased 8 gigs of ram, and currenly has a 5450 I had lying around after the 7970 i had in there...kinda died. Im trying not to exceed $50, I dont need another 7970(pricey) but something that can handle games.

Do you have room to fit a full size 11" card in there? If so, I have a HIS HD6950 that might fit your search.

The good: Works like a charm and can probably be flashed to a 6970 YMMV

The bad: The plastic housing the cooler had the lock tabs broken. I picked this card up used about a year or so ago and received it that way. I used some double zip ties to "tighten" the housing back to the mount.

I will sure take some pictures of the card for ya if you think you might be interested. Due to the cooler issue I would do $50 plus half the shipping for ya man.

Remember the 480s run really hot and loud. If the case ventilation isn't powerful I'd bet money that it will overheat.

The Case im putting it in is well ventilated, so I think it should work out. If I end up with issues, i may need to look for more case fans haha.

Hence the Aftermarket cooler replacement from the reference design.

That should help, but the heat is dumped into the case, so good airflow is still important.

This is very true. The card did perform without issue in a full tower case, however when I did slap this in my daughter's mid tower ATX case with 4-80mm fans (set up for "push-pull" airflow) she would have PC shutdowns during summer when her room was already hot. Of course I just used that ole corrective measure of just removing the side panel and problem was solved.

That has to be just about the best corrective measure there is.

My PC permanently runs without the side panel, because I'm always tinkering inside it and yeah, it runs pretty cool.

Having the panel on can actually cool better if you have a high airflow case like mine and have some fans pushing a lot of air through it. There would be significant noise from such a setup though and a lot of dust buildup, too.

I can concur, GTX 480 will boil other components. I used to run 480 SLi.

That's what you needed if you wanted any chance of cooling two of them on air with a bit of an overclock.

Haha love that setup, the setup for this one is side panel open, 2 rear fans, one top fan, and one on side panel thats not there. Should be fine, but i need to fix the wiring, never adjusted since i got the new psu a while ago #slacking
