system not booting anymore

So just found out from a friend that when he put his 1070 in to his rig, his PSU died too, which is a newer evga unit i think. Maybe there is a problem with pascal GPUs. Not a wide spread issue, obviously.

EDIT: He doesnt seem to think so since he thought his PSU was on the way out anyways.

Clearly it wasn't because of too much power, but a simple failure. It is 5 years old. You will probably end up with a newer and better PSU anyway.... though that does suck. BLEH.

So you don't have another PSU around that you could use? Hell 300W is plenty to get it started (and running, LOL). That would tell you for sure...

Maybe its the motherboard...

Maybe its the motherboard...

I have an very old unit that i use to get my pump running for loop refills. It doesnt even have 24 pin. Its a 20 lol.

The motherboard will be the next thing to check if the PSU i get from corsair doesnt fix it.

EDIT: Actually it is a 24. Its a 300w seasonic. But only has a 4 pin for CPU eps power. idk if thatll be enough for a 4770k.

maybe ill try it tonight with no gpu nothing just board and memory. Though ill have to fill my loop before I can do it.

well. My roommate had a multi meter so i am using it now to check values from the psu and from both the 24 pin and 8 pin the +12v rail reads a perfect 12.0v. I dont think its the power supply. Board or CPU.

it wont boot. It just flashes when the psu is switched on. Hitting the power botton, both the motherboard button or the case, it doesnt do anything now.

i assume psu is starting with clip if you managed to check voltage with multimeter

if you short the start button pins mb starts?

check also soldering at connection of sockets on mb maybe one is bad..

PSU can still indicate 12V when not under load.
With it connected to the motherboard and all components disconnected except cpu and cooler, take a 12V reading from the back of the 24 pin connector while pressing the on button.

Edit: have you tried that 300W PSU with the 4 pin for CPU yet?
It should be enough to boot the stripped down board at idle.

I havent tried it yet. Ill have to take the motherboard out and build the rig outside the case. The cables are extremely short.

I emailed Asus yesterday and hoping I get a response today. I had been trying to find information on the power and reset buttons on the motherboard that have a steady blink. Some people replaced power supply and that fixed it, or something like usb or a drive was causing it. Well I have all usb connections and drives disconnected and it still blinks and wont power up. Usually if the machine was working those buttons would be on constantly.

is rather ironic there was just a long "spare parts" thread about it. I don't keep as much as I used to but I can still do a full tear down of at least one rig and have a spare of everything.

had my psu go out recently. Diagnosis took all of 2 minutes because I had a spare handy.

while the symptoms may indicate psu here though, I'd guess mobo personally.

UPDATE: Just put my 1070 into my roommates rig and it works. Connected my PSU to see if his rig boots with it, and it did. That narrows it down to the motherboard.
