Asus HD6950 DC2 Overclocking voltage problem

Hello. I wanted to overclock gpu. Core, memory, power limit, everything is ok, but when i'm want to increase voltage, like example, stock is 1.1v, and no matter how much to raise up, (in Gputweak), in other programs shows original voltage, like in HWmonitor and etc. It looks like, voltage increasing only in program, but not in real. Perhaps someone you were faced with this? I don't know if it happened when i tried unlock gpu to 6970, and returned back to old bios.

Tried install ASUS smartdoctor, but it won't see my gpu. (tried lot of ways to turn on, nothing helped).

Waiting for your answer, Paul.

Run GPU-Z, keep it running and start the game. Use the graph page in GPU-Z to see what voltage is used during 3D load.

Use MSI Afterburner for overclocking.

Oh, now i see, when i launched GPU-Z, ant started game, it's shows me 1.25v, like i set in Gpu Tweak. But i don't catch , why fps not changing, while i'm set higher value of voltage. Because i set higher value of core, memory and power limit.

Use the MSI AB overlay to check ingame behaviour of the card, or simply use MSI AB to check the clocks of the card while running a game, use 2nd monitor if you have one. Basically you need to make sure if the GPU works the way you wanted.

That MSI AB, is not allowing to change voltage. I read that, you need change number in .cfg file, but still it doesn't work. Only Gpu Tweak, looks like working "fine". Today after job, i will try to use overlay, and see what i get.

Sorry for english. :)

Hello. I've tried AB overlay, and she shows me, like i set in GPU Tweak, so it's cna be , that not all programs see oc ?

I'm not using gpu tweak but yes it can certainly be true that not all programs work well all the time or with all Gpus.

If ab shows the clocks you wanted and also the games run in the speed you expect everything is fine I'd say.

Strange, because it's for asus gpu's. Gpu -z , shows that voltage what i choose in gpu tweak. But hw monitor, shows stock voltage. Yesterday i tried run 3dmark (new one, not remember version) , in first run was:

Core: 950
Memory:5400
Power limit: 120%
Voltage: 1.250

And second:

Core: 950
Memory:5400
Power limit: 120%
Voltage: 1.200

After two runs, score almost the same (3-5 points difference).

In few another runs, i've tried rise up voltage, to 1260 and 1265, points decrease, about ~ 10 (but not on all runs). So for now, i don't know if it works, maybe i will try like Evga Precision-x. ?

You really need to unlock the voltage tuning in ab, it's the best software - that said I'm not sure if evga software works on amd hardware, evga is a nvidia exclusive brand.

BTW. What do you expect changing voltage? It doesn't change the speed of your card, voltage is just for powering the gpu, it has to be enough but not too much that's it.

950mhz is not bad, I wouldn't go over 1.2 voltage with it though, power consumption is way too much and it's not really good for the health of the gpu either. That said, if you go very high with voltage at least pull of a 1ghz+ on the gpu, else it's not worth it I'd say. ;)

Not all HD 6950 can be flashed to HD 6970, sometimes (or most of the times) the deactivated shaders are simply broken.

Also you've got a asus dcu II custom card - only the (early) reference amd cards were flashable to 6970.

If I were you. AMD Overdrive needs to be turned off. Also cards use power saving functions on desktop.

Go into advanced power settings in windows control panel and change the PCI express link state to max power/performance

So i've tired msi ab, after unlocking voltage, it's only let me change base option, to 1.1v.

What i noticed in gpu-z , that i've flashed bios from 6970, checked version, in database. Today will try some tests, maybe it's unlocked, only in gpu-z shows like stock. (if that can be).

6900 series were never great overclockers, even when you could push them to like 1ghz they barely scaled much.

7000 series though that scales awesome.

For now what i got from stock, it's pretty good. It's my opinion.

Does it list the card as 6970 in gpu z with 1536 shaders? I ask because I'm not sure what you're saying. Also check it with other programs like hw info to be sure. However the difference isn't really high compared to 6950, it's more about the clocks. The gpu scales pretty well with chip oc.

It's still a HD 6950 then, 1408 shaders.
