Intel is preparing a broad lineup of enterprise CPUs based on the upcoming 14 nm "Kaby Lake" silicon, besides the first wave of its desktop lineup, with no less than 8 quad-core SKUs. What makes the lineup of the Xeon E3-1200 V6 family more comprehensive than previous generations is the fact that some of the SKUs feature integrated graphics. Predecessors of the E3-1200 V6 series generally lack integrated graphics. Intel denoted parts that feature integrated graphics with Xeon E3-###5 V6, and endowed them with the GT2 graphics available on the "Kaby Lake" common silicon shared between the Xeon E3-1200 V6 and 7th generation Core series.

All eight SKUs launched by Intel are quad-core and feature 8 MB of L3 cache, six of them feature HyperThreading. Three of the SKUs feature integrated graphics. The SKUs without integrated graphics have 74W TDP rating, the ones with it have 78W TDP rating. Some of the notable SKUs include the E3-1280 V6, with 3.90 GHz nominal clocks, E3-1275 V6 with 3.70 GHz clocks and GT2 integrated graphics; and E3-1225 V6, featuring 3.30 GHz clocks, and integrated graphics. The Xeon E3-1200 V6 series processors will be built in the LGA1151 package, and will be compatible with the C232 and C236 chipset motherboards. The company could launch these chips by the end of 2016.

1280 looks interesting, for Xeon is does seem to have quite high clock speeds.

I think better option was X99 platform... Owners have more variation to choose.
If someone don't have money for motherboard to change later could upgrade on 8 or 10 core models when price drop.
Intel Coffee Lake will be interesting during 2018 if Intel decide to launch mainstream CPU with 6 cores. 12-15MB Cache.
PCI-E 4.0 will become popular until then... In mean time overclocked Haswell-EX, Broadwell-EX are better option.
Best if someone could buy i7-6850K. Overclocked to 4.4GHz is very fast processor.

there were 12xx V3 Xeon CPUs with integrated CPU.

so V6 is far from the first with iGPU.

These E3 CPUs are the worst of the server CPUs, that power inefficiency is astounding. AMD really needs to step in.

Also XenServer can use the Intel iGPU for shared virtualization.

I guess Xeons were very popular with desktop motherboards, so they decided to block the support. I have a 1230 v3 (Haswell) myself on a B85 mobo, but I guess I will just go with an overclockable i5/i7 next time.
Right now I am waiting to see what Zen shows, I hope it is good and Intel are finally forced to do something.

Yes, the prices are too high and you would only buy one over i5/i7 if you need a motherboard with server features and thus a Xeon. They don't offer anything over i5/i7 which are cheaper.

Of course the Xeons are cheaper. The Haswell 1230 was 240 $ and it had 8 threads but no iGPU. The cheapest i7 is always over 300 $, which is why those Xeons were a really good alternative.

The Skylake 1230 is 250 $, which is much cheaper than an i7 as well, but you cannot use it with regular desktop motherboards. Some manufacturers produced desktop boards with server chipsets.

I meant v6 prices including the motherboard cost are too high since i7+motherboard is a lot cheaper because motherboard is less than (I am using American keyboard and can't find less than sign) 80$.

All this lost interoperability because of profit, sad.

Intel Coffee Lake with 6 cores/12T 15MB Cache with 3.8GHz and 4.2GHz Turbo could be good CPU.
If AMD show with better processors than Intel will sell i7 for 300 not 400$. And price of premium motherboards should back on 350$.
This is insane, Maximus V Extreme 360$, Maximus VIII Extreme 500$, how?

With so big price you have no other option that 6 core budget version of extreme or Xeon 12-14 cores ES on blackmarket and upgrade every 5 years.

I thought Xeons were server CPUs? What's the point of quad core version of this? I'd pay a LOT more for the equivalent of desktop CPU with same parameters?

It seems Intel has gone full retard on this one.. Amd has a chance to capture server market share with Zen I guess lol

Intel went full retard with the skylate Xeons...

Like many others I spent $50 more than an I5 got a Xeon 1230v3 100mhz slower than the I7 at the time and over $100 cheaper.

V-5 require a special motherboard which costs more than an i5/i7

Like many others waiting to see what xen can do...
