That said...

Someone must've forgot to inform them that miners no longer use PCIe (they are standalone) and you can make no money with this, giving it almost 0 market...

They either missed the bus with this one, or got on the short one for the long haul...

This is their second generation mining board...

With the price increase as of late (currently at $576) it could be worth it again. Hell, it was worth it at $500 in 2014... I pulled in $300 month net profits with just a few cards (290/290x)...

Uh, no. There's this thing called difficulty. It's not worth it with this board ever because you won't make even a small amount, you'd be lucky to break even with the altcoin market right now AFAIK. Someone can correct me, but I used to mine litecoin (not bitcoin, so biased I am not). GPU mining died with that as far as I am concerned. All other alts are pretty worthless.

Also, Bitcoin has half the reward now, and the price hasn't increased since then, it's dropped.

6 cards per system is pretty common for milk crate/custom frame builds.

bitcoin on gpus is long past but there are plenty of alt coins that use gpus.

yup, cheap electricity helps of course. also in the winter months the heat can offset your regular heating bill, so its kinda like subsidized mining.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and have a very very good idea of how much GPU mining costs. This is one of the cheapest electricity places in the world and it's still not possible to turn a profit. The heat was nice though in the winter. I shutdown end of 2015 and haven't looked back. If there WAS a profitable altcoin, I might look though. Ether looks interesting since coinbase endorsed it. Can it be GPU mined?

yes. basically just like btc was back in the day. and eth is pretty much asic proof. but it may shift away from gpu mining to proof of stake at some point.

the amd 4x0 and nvidia 10x0 series both do well at decent efficiency. the amd 2x0 and 3x0 also hash well but use more power to do it.

lots of folks run 6 gpu systems so i wonder why this board only has 5 slots. its like a step backwards, the previous btc pro board had 6 pcie slots.

I'd do it if I didn't have to invest. Shame I sold all 6 of my 7970's... they still worked fine.

but i agree, starting from scratch is risky unless you have a use for the cards when they cant turn a profit any more. i have a couple 390s and a 380 mining but they also are for gaming.

Yeah, Tahiti was a pretty great miner back when I used it. I suppose for the right role it still is.

It'll always be going on. Going on PC's, it is not.

Etherium and Monero are currently in the craze now, so it really varies on the price of the altcoin. I had several friends who's back now in mining altcoins particularly those that I've mentioned. The new AMD RX are giving out excellent hash/watt. I mined litecoins too few years ago. That among the dozens of altcoins I tried. I stopped basically cause of electricity cost. It sucks here in my country.

Litecoin got bad at the end, so you didn't miss much. It's interesting to hear the craze came back on some other coins, but I'm not jumping on that boat by any means again.
