People remember DX12 which can use multiple GPUs and the fact that it won't be any cheaper if it comes without the GPU (stock coolers anyone?)!

There are limitations to the multi GPU ability of DX 12. Sure you can have each GPU render different frames but it doesn't help if your iGPU is so much slower than your discrete GPU that by the time it takes the slow iGPU to render one frame you don't even need it anymore because your main GPU has already rendered ahead.

That's 90+% of the market. Do you really need to ask why they put iGPUs in everything? they make iGPU less CPUs, you just have to pay $1500+ because most of the market doesnt care about not having an iGPU that doesnt impact their PC negatively in any way.

It does however, eat die space that should be being used for I dunno, maybe CPU development?

Notice the "relative" in the performance/watt metric, where the graph has no reference other than a big arrow pointing up, and the actual first chips are the LP versions where they usually don't reach 2Ghz in order to meet their target power and thermal points. So it is relatively equal in performance to a C2D running 45W of power, which is still weak compared to modern ARM CPU's and their ATI variant integrated GPU's.

Good point based on many assumptions.

Intel improved their iGPU's thanks to aggressive AMD pushing their APU's. Otherwise we'd still have crap Intel graphics. So, competition is clearly a good thing, sometimes even underdogs poke big guys enough for them to stop being lazy.

Here, let me google that for you.

So only in tasks that require high amounts of cache and or specialized hardware does Intel pull ahead. So.....

Meanwhile in 2016 Android still offers gazillions of phones with dreaded octa core A53 chips that trade blows with single core A9.
I really hope the future Android phones will not be laggy crap with 32 slow cores while apps use 2 at most.

Seriously. I only need an iGPU in the i7 desktop CPU just to boot Windows into safe mode in case I burned my dGPU or something. Any other purpose discussed above is hilarious, to say the least/

Are you nuts? You could leave the ios/android bash outside of here.

You got what you payed for. Android isn't at fault carrying also budget hardware.

Nexus and flagship phones are perfectly fine since snapdragon 800. Get some reason. These mobile chips are more sophisticated than intel ones in the igpu and media engine considering the power envelope Intel is lagging a year behind already.

I'll wait to see how X-Point storage devices fare out before deciding whether to get a Z270 board and just stick my skylake cpu in it or not.

As for the actual kaby lake cpus, no I'll pass.

Benchmark Scores Very big
We want full HW encodeing/decoding of HEVC !! Not partial acceleration.

HTPC can't actually run a x265 in 1080p at any decent bitrate. I cannot go farther than 720p (and it's still limited on the bitrate.

I don't want to use my DVD's and Bluray's every time I need them so I put them in my NAS, and without x265 it's taking to much space, especially for series.
Also x265 is quite slow to encode so ...

Edit : and we don't fucking care about 4K ... it's useless without a decent HW decoding in HEVC

You already have that from skylake onwards. Kaby lake adds 10 bit accelaration in hardware though.

Isn't this the last of the Tick Tock..

I bet pre 25 year old gammers that water cool everything and run windows 10 will have hard ons for these new CPU's..

While the rest of use couldn't give a rats...

Sandy Bridge now that was a big step.. everything since this has been yawn...

Only thing id like to see the power usage of the new CPU's.

There are plenty of Xeons with iGPUs. The ones without are there so Intel has a place to sell the dies with damaged IGPUs.

Thats just plain wrong, but I guess you know that already?! Why bother spreading crap like this?

There are only a few E3-Xeons with iGPUs. All the other E5 and E7 Xeons for example don't have iGPUs, not even disabled ones. Heck, even the Xeon-D does not have an iGPU!

Hes referring to the E3's since they are based on the mainstream desktop chip whereas the E5 and E7 are server chips which are completely irrelevant to this thread about kabe lake.

I'm still mad about math co-processors!!1

Kidding.

Sure, the list of applications that utilize multiple compute resources is stacked with professional applications or ones developed by large teams but that is ever changing. The immense effort Intel has put in and continues to put in will pay off as heterogeneous computing becomes ubiquitous like say, SIMD. This was a big deal back in the late 90's; you tried out Planet of Death to see an MMX game in action, whether you liked the genre or not. Now, whatever it's utilizing behind the scenes doesn't get much press unless you're the first.

Yep, and most of the boards that would use the E5 or E7 Xeons, have integrated graphics on the motherboard. Making there no need for an iGPU.

Actually, I want iGPU on every CPU, even on Xeons. But I don't need them to be powerful. Just enough for 1080p video playback would be sufficient.

Not everyone's a gamer.

I don't want a GPU on my CPUs.
That's precisely y I got a Xeon 1230v3
