Greetings everyone,

I recently purchased a Dell T3600 off Ebay and upgraded with 32gb of RDIMM ecc because it was the cheapest to get and this is a second development PC. After the upgrade though, I get an error message that my PSU is not sufficient. Dell says that the 635 watt psu is required to run ECC rdimms. I am curious as to why the extra 200 watts would be necessary for using rdimms. Should I bother?

Thanks!

The memory does take some power to run, does that board you're using have 8 pin power connection for the memory?

No it doesn't. I actually found a 635 watt psu on Ebay for $50 so I just bought it. If it wasn't proprietary I would have bought a brand new one. I still would think that a 425 watt psu would have been sufficient.

well like anything else its based off of voltage. The mroe you add the more it uses. This 16GB kingston stick for example (ECC) uses like 6w a stick

which is brutal if you really think about it.
