i gave my x-wife my old computer now it won't boot

at first it would try to boot there would be the beep from bios but no post. then it tried to reflash the bios on its own and froze in the middle of the flash. now it does no beep but the fans still spin i think the bios is bricked. the bios chip is soldered on the motherboard the motherboard is a Asus crosshair ii formula. does anyone have any idea what I can do? how much do you think Asus will charge me if I send the board into them?

You can replace the bios chip or manually reflash, otherwise it's bricked and unless it's under warranty, ASUS won't care.

The Asus Crosshair II Formula supports Asus's "CrashFree BIOS 2." It might be a way to recover from the corrupt BIOS flash. Otherwise your going to need a new BIOS chip, and desolder the old chip then solder on new BIOS chip.

well im going to bed. I would like a top down picture if thats possible. I would also like what that chip says if you can manage it.

That said. It would be tight but I might be able to get my aligator clips around that. If it really is that important to you if you want to pay shipping I can try and flash it. I cant guarantee it will work but I do own an eeprom programmer so the bios not working doesnt really scare me.

If you did decide to take me up on the offer and want me to do some additional testing you can also send me a CPU, cooler and ram so I can try to boot it. I dont have anything that old here so if you just sent the board I could try programming the chip but I would have no way to test it.

Its upto you.

You take it off, and solder a new one on. It's not rocket science.

ASUS CRASHFREE BIOS 2: Use the ORIGINAL source disk supplied with the motherboard to return to stock bios. Unplug HD and any extraneous cables, only keep the DVD drive connected. You may want to clear CMOS first.

It should blind flash the chip no problem. May take about half an hour, tops.
