DSR on desktop

I really like using DSR on desktop as it gives more screen area when upscaling from 1080p to 1440p or 4k. My question is, "Does enabling DSR on desktop equates to more gpus power usage?" Thanks.

DSR will always use more GPU power. For desktop use, not a lot more.

I'm quite not sure how to explain it. Does it use a lot of power when DSR is used? I noticed it using the 1070 3d clocks when i just move my mouse from an idle desktop. I used afterburner and gpuz to check that. It does not happen when using 1080p though.

I also want to know if having high clocks (1.5k ghz) and low gpu usage (1%) equate to more power consumption or low clocks (900mhz) with more gpu usage (30%) as an example.

you have a 1070, so its low 3D clocks only use about 10W.

DSR wont cause much higher power consumption - going by your specs, your CPU is what you should be worried about.

Cool! Guess I will be sticking with DSR then.

And yeah, my cpu is kinda meh but it is still holding up. I'm waiting for zen as intel prices here are ridiculous.

Of course it uses more power. Basics of thermodynamics. For more work you need more energy. You'll be demanding GPU to process more pixels. Guess what that means? More power consumption. Still, doubling the usual 10W would mean 20W. Irrelevant imo.

It does. I've tried 4K DSR on 1080p and things don't look too good.

DRS looked very blurry for me when I tried it, but there should be a smoothness setting per app (don't know about desktop though, haven't tried it in almost 2 years). Think if you put that to zero it should be fine for text.

DSR looks blurry as hell for text, that's all there is to it. it only really works for 'console' style games with large text, that doesnt fuzz out.

Not that much. I just adjust the sharpness level and it becomes as good as native. Maybe it is just my screen.

Why i enable dsr on my gtx 670.. yeah... it will not let me choose the resolution.. im not on it now but i know the last 4 parts like 1080. Under dsr it takes it to 1526. Is there a way to change this to 1440? I use a 1080p monitor.

When you enable it inside the nvidia panel it would ask you what kind of resolution to use. If you're on 1080p, enable. x1.75 for 1440p and x4 for 4k I think.

Im new to nvidia.. just switched like a week ago when i got that 670... only option i saw was to choose resolution it had 1080p and below or it said dsr and the 1536 one with 2k next to it but i cant change those just select it where would i go? The 1536 is just to small to read on my 22 inch monitor even with 250% scaling.
