TOXIKK now available on Steam: fast and furious old skool shooter

Good looking old skool Unreal Tournament arena style shooter just released with free and paid versions and using Unreal Engine. Tagline is "Frag like it's 1999". :cool:

Only problem is that I can't get it to work. Just get a black screen with a spinning blue roundel for a mouse pointer.

Can start Task Manager, but the window is hidden, so I can only get out of it with ctrl-alt-delete and logging off. Tried a couple of times but got the same thing. Will troubleshoot it further later. See if you have any luck with it.

Awesome..been loosely following this for a bit. Downloading now.

EDIT: Bought it because there were no quick match servers I could find and it was pissing me off. Played for 30 minutes. Rocket launcher is way too OP - spawns too quick and too many bullets. Movement is very fluid, levels I played were really cool. Needs a bit more explanation as to what things do/are: I kept picking up these rockets and nades and shit when I spawned but didn't show me how to use them, were they in my inventory or for a gun I could pickup?

Keep in mind I've never really done arena shooters except for a bit of Quake Live and UT3.

I really like this game but when I last tried playing I had the option of bots or 2 guys who would snipe me from across the map.
I would really enjoy getting a group of people together to play.

I played for a little while, personally I think the level design and weapon choices is pretty inspired compared to UT. Pity it will die as UT Alpha keeps getting more and more fleshed out though.

I've had it for a while now. I've had a hard time learning the movement but other than that I love it.

The free version doesn't let you do shit like customizing character, play single player, use server browser, etc. I think you just do quick match and that is it.

Sounds about right. Just a teaser / demo for the paid version and nothing more.

Ok, now for the large horde of members who were on tenterhooks on what caused the game to crash at startup, I've now figured it out. :pimp:

It was the combination of MSI AfterBurner and Fraps - each one runs fine separately. Next step is to try and figure out how to run them together. My hunch is that the root cause is due to Fraps not having been updated for such a long time.

Had a quick blast with the trial and loved it - fast and furious deathmatch just like Unreal Tournament on which it's based and with some very colourful and well designed graphics. Love the flamethrower especially, which UT doesn't have and I won my first two single player games as well. :cool:

I've now bought the game. To actually get it though, I have to delete it and then redownload it, because a purchase doesn't automatically unlock the full game, which is kinda silly. One for tomorrow.

That does sounds boring. This is all fully configurable on UT, even the old 1999 one, so clearly the developers have been taking stupid shortcuts.

Maybe you just were finding only empty servers? I haven't played much more than the first day I got it (nothing to do with this game tbh, that's just how I am with games) but I was finding plenty of servers either full or with a slot open to join. But I also have the full version, so.

that's been my experience with those two programs as well. fraps and UE3/4 just dont get along, so i just assume fraps is the culprit. shame really, since all i use fraps for these days is easy screenshots (unlike afterburner, fraps lets me bind Mouse5).
but yeah, if the fraps people could update for dx12 and whatnot...
