I put my card back to stock on all settings, in CSGO my card will hit 97c and throttle then fan will kick up to max.

If i run a custom fan profile i will stay under 83c but it's crazy loud. I am able to give it a good respectable overclock and only increase power limit to 110% realistically if a game demands more GPU grunt, but the noise is phenominal.

To put this in comparison to something else, my GeForce GTX 480 reference card was way quieter and easier to keep cool.

The card is fully clean and has a MX-4 application done on it, but nothing fixes it.

Did EVGA send out a bad batch?

Hottest and loudest card i have ever owned, but not a slow card.

My custom profile.

Definitely something wrong here. My SLI 670s don't even get that hot in stress tests. Check HS mounting...

Perhaps the OC has degraded the chip that much it's voltage leakage is now insane, however I believe you'd be seeing the effects of this...

EDIT: Looking at your system specs, I see it is reference. Maybe they do get that hot.

Card is flashed, immediately put Vram back to 512+ mem clock and got nice flashy colours, forgot the FTW has higher base clocks so 400 is now 7ghz.

Not been able to test temps yet because card is stuck in 2D mode, will test after a reboot.

The EVGA Geforce GTX 660 SC I used to have always stayed cool running under load (under 80c) for me even though it used a blower fan plus I was overclocking.

The FTW bios is incompatible even at stock caused the card to artifact, found the latest SC bios from a forum post on EVGA forums and flashed that, issue not fixed.

It's just an insanely hot running card :/

Apply some fresh TIM See if that helps, the original stuff is likely dry and ineffective if it's never been cleaned and reapplied

Card has only been in my PC for about 3 or so months and as soon as i got the card i reapplied MX-4 as i stated, the card is dustless.
From the buyer and testing it ran hotter on the old paste.

My bad missed that part... Hmm does seem too hot even for a reference card, how's your case airflow? Maybe a negative airflow setup would get rid of more of the warm air from the card decreasing the card temp, other than an after market would probably be your only other option. Or maybe contact evga they may reply and help you even though it's likely long out of warranty

Case is laid on it's side all the time now, 240mm fan in top and 120mm at rear, 120mm facing air pressure towards fan intake.

Oddly my old bios had a max voltage of 1.2v whilst this one only gets to 1137mv.

But it's still not cool running at all, it hit's 88c in Shadow of Mordor for instance at 70% fan and 80c if i limit the power to the card. Obviously full power allows the GPU to boost properly, there are no overclocks on anything in both screenshots.

One of two things, no mounting pressure or one of your heat pipes may have ruptured. The 670 is not a hot running chip and does not require nearly as much cooling as you think it would. I would definitely check the mount first to make sure your getting a good seal between the heat sink and the chip

Honestly i can't see that being the problem at all, it's not like you can screw up the mounting pressure, but the shroud is cheapo plastic shit.. way worse build quality vs a 480/580

There is a possibility that the screws holding the sink to the chip are not the originals if they were slightly too long it could push the sink further out than what is optimal resulting in poor mounting pressure. One way to test is to remove the screws from the heat sink , the shroud and get with those zip ties and spot cool the heat sink. Shouldn't be too hard to test quickly.

Found an interesting post and is actually a design flaw.

This is caused by screws with integrated stop, that resulted in too little mounting pressure between GPU and heatsink. I added four metal washers, by removing the screws, adding the washer and putting the screws back. The cooler was not removed for this procedure, thermal paste was not changed

Interesting I expect better form Zotac they are the NV equivalent to Sapphire for AMD(both PC Partner) I expect better from them but it does kinda fit your particular issue tho.

Still might be worth checking that whole "screws" thing I mean if you have some washers kicking around that fit the bill it wouldn't hurt to do that regardless just to give it the best contact you can get.

LOLOL i think i solved my problem well sort of...

Still loud but temps are lower, i errrr put longer screws in and bent the back plate outwards to give it a larger force when screwed down, max temp so far in CSGO at 250-400FPS 72c.

Ghetto Mod is Ghetto but whatever works!

Card looks no different as the screws sit flush to PCB and are black like the originals, the retention plate at the back of the PCB is unnoticeable too but it is definitely adding a lot more force to the GPU as well the temps are better, but that damn fan.. still loud, but at least the card won't die now :p

Alright so it was a slick Ghetto Mod regardless if it solves the problem then, Success? I mean as long as it works that is all that matters right?
