RAM on a budget

i'm about to build an Allendale based rig, c2d E4300. Should I use 2Gb of 667MHz or 1Gb of 800Mhz ram, bearing in mind I'm on a budget. I'm gonna use this setup to play mainly FPS games like Counter-Strike. I may also overclock the cpu at some point or I may just leave it for energy efficiency reasons.

yeh except i'm looking for the best deal <£50 ^^ lol. Was asking whether to spend more on the actual amount of RAM or the speed, given my processor and intended use.

This is a bit like Judas' recommendation, only cheaper - still £20 over budget, but I would definately recommend that you consider it.

But if you have to chose between 2GB slow and 1GB fast, go for the 2GB because size has a bigger impact than speed in applications that are ram hungry.

Edit: unless you could upgrade to 2GB later, in which case you could go for the faster stuff. Either way, I think £70 for 2GB of fast ram is a bargain.

I would forget about the 512 kit though and for performance i would suggest pc 6400

if you are on that tight of a budget then these. But definitely get a 2gb kit

yeah those ^ Geils are a good deal machine. That is what I would be going for unless you can afford another 8 quid then get these:

Only because they are warranted up to 2 volts which would fetch you a good oc on em... G.Skill make some nice ram as well.

Keep you eye out for some cas 4 800mhz ram around the 50 quid price, surely someone has a special on over there. that would be the stuff to get.

check the ram in my specs i got 2 gig off an ebay shop for £65 its rated @ 800/5.5.5.15 1.8v but will do 800/4.3.4.8@2.2v or 1000 5.5.5.15 not too bad if you ask me
