Hi everyone!
I am upgrading my monitor (asus VW193D, 1440*900p) and I need your help! looking for something around 23-24".
I spend many hours a day in front of it, with brightness set to 0% and xflux-like software (some daynights I go "-100%" by lowering more through ATI catalyst), so I need something that doesn't hurt after a while (IPS??). I surf, view documents, watch some movie and so on. I play rarely (but when I do...:D), mostly fps.
What I want is something sharp enough (so better off choosing 1920*1200?) to not see pixels like the one I have now.
My budget is 150-180 €
TPU's adviced LG 23MP47HQ is nowhere to be found in my zone:(
I am going to buy a monitor arm, too. The arctic z1 (any opinions?), since my monitor is sitting now on a book...

I like my monitor (a lot), but mostly because I got it for €60.

The only things I can say is that anything will be a massive upgrade and beware a lack of VESA mounts.

EDIT: I don't have that mount, but similar systems and they're excellent to have.

It might be out of your price range, but I love my ASUS VS24AH-P I was able to upgrade to it from a Asus VE248H, which was a nice monitor too.

I spotted Asus VE248HR near me, which differs from 1 ms instead of 2 ms response time. Did you experience ghosting?

Hmm ..then find some BenQ GL or something with output hdmi, good latency

Difference in this segment from TN to IPS panels is not that big,u are good with both.

I sit at 65 cm (25.6") from my monitor and I can see pixels around characters, so not perfectly smooth, with 0,285 mm dot pitch.
will switch to 0,276 (BenQ GL2450HM/ asus VE248HR ) or 0.265 (asus VC239H) smooth them out?

This is the one that i'm using as a secondary monitor and for Console gaming. It has a VESA mount and is pretty much bezel-less. And, it's an IPS, looks goregeous.

@D007 I know, but I can't push too far until I'll upgrade at least vga (my 5770 will barely manage earlier games @1080p), maybe I'll go for next gen mid range card, or directly to PCI-ex 4.0

@BiggieShady thank you for your recommendation, honestly looks like they charge more because its pivotable, but since I'll buy an arctic z1 I don't need that feature.

I was using this up until a week ago (upgraded to 4K) and can verify its plausibility: IPS, 1080p and a very thin bezel.

All LCD monitors show ghosting to some degree or another, it's in the nature of the sample and hold technology used, even if the response time was 0ms. To get rid of it you need a monitor with a strobing backlight. I have one, the BenQ XL2720Z 144Hz 1080p monitor and motion is fantastic on it with the strobe switched on. To be honest, the ghosting isn't too noticeable with it switched off, either as it's a good quality TN panel with very low lag. There's a 1440p version of it, the XL2730Z too which supports Freesync, but I think your card is too old for that feature.

Unfortunately, there's no one monitor that's best at everything, at any price, so you have to compromise somewhere. If you don't do much gaming, then go for an IPS display as they beat a TN panel hands down for colour quality and viewing angles.

Check out www.blurbusters.com for everything about strobing displays and how they can enhance your game. They've also got motion tests to really show up that motion blur. You might be shocked by the results...

I sit quite close to it, and i'm not noticing the pixels at all. All in all, a very nice and smooth experience, you won't regret it. ;)

thank you guys!
I forgot to say I use dual windows for studying, reading slides etc
This is my setup @1440*900 (89.37 PPI, 0.2842mm dot pitch):
desk.png
as you can see, characters are not so well-defined.
So I need a bigger display capable of handle two pages keeping them defined and readable (I saw a 24" 2560*1440 and characters where terribly small). Considering also dell P2217H (IPS 6ms 0.248 pixel pitch).
I am going to often use vertical view, and since I'll use monitor arm I can consider also non-pivot screens.

thank you guys!
I forgot to say I use dual windows for studying, reading slides etc
This is my setup @1440*900 (89.37 PPI, 0.2842mm dot pitch):
View attachment 79269
as you can see, characters are not so well-defined.
If you're using the monitor for this reason, I would suggest looking at ultra wides, they'll offer you a bit more space for your work.

sweeeet!
I found LG 25UM58 at 160€ (IPS, 75hz, 5ms) seems a (too) good price. Specs say it has 8bits color depth and 16 .7M colors, is that correct?
