With you on FO: New Vegas there. I thought it was shit. The world felt cheap, only the city was a little bit 'cool'. But that engine...even at the time. So weak

I couldn't get to the city because the rest of it was shit. I got as far as that prison fort thing.

Total War series: not good at RTS
StarCraft 2 : same as above yet i own 2/3 of the base games
Gears of War: not too good at 3PS, Destiny rectified some of that
Call of Duty series: no interest in those games, yet my son loves them (mostly for Zombies)

For those that aren't fans of the Pokemon GO's gameplay, but like the outdoorsy teamwork-oriented nature of it, you might like Niantic's other game, Ingress.
Some of the people I play with like to say "Pokemon GO is checkers and Ingress is chess." If you try it out, Enlightened faction is best faction.

Edit: Almost all of my friends that I hang out with regularly now are people I've met through Ingress.

O, I play Ingress. Definitely better than PoGo. At least you actually have to work in a team to take over portals, etc. Enlightened as well.

but do they block ingress for ppl with rooted/jailbroken or unlocked phones? I liked PoGo, but im not about to give up root access and my custom OS ROM (resurrection remix) to play ANY mobile game

"For me it definitely has to be HALO.
Played it on XBOX and PC as much as i can bare and still could barely get myself to go much further than a quarter of the game, it's just the same thing over and over again rinse repeat, boring overused enemies too that because of the frequency of the fights with them becomes very old fast.

i would call it a console technical marvel for it's time but it's game play and story? most generic tripe i have ever witnessed.

Goldeneye was the true marvel in game play, it never tried to be something it wasn't.

Worthy mention for better games near or before it's time?

Bethsoft games. All of them. Every single one. Fallout 4 was so bad it made me angry.
Bioware games after Jade Empire. I never liked Mass Effect, and while I finished DA Origins and its DLC I wasn't terribly impressed with it. Started a second playthrough a while back and could not be bothered.

Not hate but it has to be said:
Heroes of Might and Magic after game three and everything made with its engine. Yes Heroes 3 is generally regarded as the best in the series, but I still see people playing the newer games which is pointless because they can play the Era mod.

As for people disliking H-L2, I can probably understand it, if compared to other more classical shooters which tends to be about gameplay mechanics and setups. H-L is almost character driven. I'm generally not a fan of shooters though, maybe that's why I like it.

Lets look at the title of the threat again "games you hated that everybody else loved".

Half life (2) is a game seemingly everyone one loved, he did not.
Is that the same as calling it "a pile of shit"? no its not.

I can see for example a lot of people really enjoy Minecraft, I personally dont like but it must be doing something right if it brings enjoyment for so many others.
Just because I dont like it does not mean its good.
And just because he does not like HL(2) does not mean he calls it a "pile of shit".

The first Deus Ex?? Dude, are you f. serious? Probably you were too young for this game and didn't quite understood the plot and mechanics.
This game is the best game I have ever played in my 36 years of life. Still at the date, there is absolutely no game to surpass it.

Life is Strange and pretty much all Telltale's games.
I don't think of them as a game, but rather a series of video clips that you have to press specific buttons to watch the next one, while it gives you an illusion of choice (xxx will remember that bullshit).
But somehow this type of game attracts a lot of non-gamers and casual gamers who enjoy stories and focus less on gameplay and graphics.

Kinda forgot about this one. Definitely worth mentioning.
Got ep.1 as a present here on TPU (before it went free), so I can't really complain, but c'mon...
95% positive reviews on steam for this:
- A high school drama with crudely-attached time travel
- Bunch of unbelievable characters, like that paranoic guard with more than apparent PTSD and anger management issues, or a principal who does not give two shits about anything
- A lead character so broke, you can make up new "yo mama is so broke" jokes every 5 minutes
- Teen culture references made by 50 y.o. housewives
- Too many stereotypes.... I'm takling so many, even southpark could not catch up in a single episode
- illusion of choice with those stupid time rewinds. Boils down to having 1 correct path in each conversation, while the rest are just a filler, so you can rewind/come back and try again.
- Collectibles!!!

Did I play the same game as these people?

Vanilla Skyrim - It had less replayability than other TES titles, it became a complete ARPG with roleplaying being almost thrown out the window, it's the weakest Elder Scrolls experience to date, but that didn't stop sales for some reason.
Black and White 2 - I have no idea why they made this, it's somehow worse than Black and White 1, I liked the original for being an experimental game, two just reeks. I wish Lionhead didn't go under, Fable: TLC was a decent game, but after that I just lost interest in their games.
Battlefield 3 & DayZ or any FPS with cheating for that matter - Cheaters ruined the online experience. It's frustrating getting one shot in the head by a magnum gets old really quick. It's a love-hate relationship with multi-player.
Any Final Fantasy game other than VI .VII, XIII and Lightning Returns - Maybe it's because I haven't played them, the characters of the other titles look meh to me, when I saw the gunblades in 8 I just cringed so hard.
Diablo II & III - THE GRIND! OH MY GOD. I had already burnt out on MMO's like Runescape and WoW, HELL NO, STAY AWAY FROM ME! PS. To be fair they aren't bad games, but grinding after beating the game just to try and get better loot and not get killed on higher difficulties takes more time than I am comfortable with.
MechWarrior Online - It's not the same anymore! IT'S NOT! Ever played MW4:Mercenaries with MekPak? That's much better, the graphics are dated, but WHY DID THEY CAN MechWarrior 5!? TO MAKE MORE MONEY! I've been waiting for MechWarrior 5 for so long and it's campaign with the possibility of co-op. Now I'll never see that game. I went from not being able to pilot a Mech at all as a kid and not liking the Mech sims, now I am a better pilot and in love with MW2, 3 and 4.
System Shock 1 & 2 - Clunky controls wouldn't let me play more than an hour of these. What a shame.
Last but not least, sewer levels in video games. Even Serious Sam 2 tries to joke about it.
