I just heard about this product and didn't see a thread on it so figured I would start one.

The price is ~$300 without earphones and ~$350 with the earphones.

There are a number of video reviews on the product and it seems that the screen-door effect greatly reduced at the higher resolution. I don't see it sold on Amazon or Newegg yet. The only place I see selling it is gearbest.com and I never heard of them before so I don't know if its a trustworthy vender.

The price isn't too bad though.

Its not if the selling vendor is trustworthy
its " is the Brand and Product trustworthy "
For all we know is it made using unlicensed IP and parallel production lines That make oculos or vive

China has a recent history of knock off production of mainstream Brands Repackaged and rebranded of Mainstream western Products
Not saying this the case here but i would like to read/watch a stripdown and product Assesment

SteamVR is an open standard, anyone can make a SteamVR compatible headset.

The catch here is that the display is only 60Hz, their site says 1000Hz but this is in the same sense as TVs that claim 1000Hz.

I pre-ordered a Sony PlayStationVR as a gift.

For myself I opted to just wait. I was thinking about the HTC Vive but I don't really see a rush in this respect for my personal use and I don't much care for the price or the low resolution.

It seems to me like the VR market needs to mature or go away.

yep i can even use my Honor 5X (software Gyro or Fast track workaround) with my Shinecon headset and VRidge (compatible SteamVR) or TrinusVR (all windowed apps compatible...) well ... only a 1080p screen (split :p ) and 60hz max, but testing was quite fun and interesting (wireless connection and a XBone controller, or USB tethering and mouse keyboard, headtracking for both, altho the phone i have is not the best adapted for that, it still worked like a charm during a Skyrim test  )

as for the 1000Hz ... yep i suspect TV syndrome ... (I.E.: my Toshiba is 200Hz ... my @ss ;) )

That's actually quite interesting device. Haven't heard of it until today, but it looks like these guys made what I've been asking for since Oculus CV release.

To be clearer:
1) It uses a generic 6-7" 4K display, which can probably be purchased separately on alibaba. Most likely 60Hz or 75Hz only, but I did not get any motion sickness or significant latency even on my DK1 (which is so much shittier)
2) 1000Hz is mentioned in regards to gyroscope sampling rate. It utilizes a USB gyro, most likely cloned from Rift DK1 (it's opensource, so it's fine).
3) No stupid IR cameras, or other passive tracking with a bunch of wires. Love this part.
4) MIPI driver board is integrated into HMD, so just like with DK1, all you need to do is plug in HDMI and USB cable, and you are good to go
5) Integrated headphones are also cool, but I'd rather go with some aftermarket wireless headset.

I think it looks decent, for the most part, but I'm not willing to buy.

For what it's worth, the specs say up to 90Hz Asynchronous and 60Hz Synchronous. Under system configuration they cite a GTX 960 and an R9 290. I suspect both those cards would be fine for 4K for 2D desktop use but the resolution would have to be lowered for any real gaming.

Still, since the resolution is higher (4K) something like the VR desktop should work better assuming the app supports that resolution.
