Well what are you using it for?

Also you cant overclock much if you use a xeon chip.

EDIT: I guess I need to clarify since some people are taking this out of context.

When I said "Xeon" I was referring to the chip the OP was asking about. If you look one post up you will see:

there are a lot of users here that will disagree with that statement.

True to that, but anyway 3930k will OC better. Well it's up to you. If you want to OC then I would suggest 3930k. Xeon chips are good as well of course, but usually they are lower at frequencies. Unless you want to snuggle puggle with it.

LOL yea they all use the older x58 platform chips which you could overclock but that doesnt include the processor the OP is referring to.

I'ld still go for the xeon, 3.8GHz will still be fast enough.

Go for the 3930K, way better for gaming because of way higher clocks. You don't need 8 cores for gaming, they simply won't get used - 6 cores are more than enough today.

I guess you're a overclocker - if not it doesn't matter much.

No but i found some going for around $150

If you can get them for that, go for it. The last time I checked X79 motherboard prices they were all going for $250+.

its better to choose X99 or also look for a newer i7 or unlocked i7, also if the idea of getting xeon combo still you can always have a conversation with @Knoxx29 which is the "Xeon Meister" here.... Also @CAPSLOCKSTUCK could help too, they know and own and owned several xeon units,

For streaming and sh*t, your old 2600 could handle the situation, but you gonna need like 16Gb of ram, a great GPU and Class A internet connection sir, also there is the option to fit a 2700K / 2600K or also 3770K and get an Z68 /z77 Board and try to achieve better clocks, for Higher Freq and moooar performance.

Do you want to actually "stream" or play yourself? If the latter my comment still stands else you can stay with your current system.

Also there's no point in buying x99 it's very expensive. I think op wants to save money and therefore he can only go with X58/x79/lga1155/1156. Everything else is pretty much costy.

Only buy based on budget, i only went XEON because of my low budget at the time.
However... definitely an experience and an amazing one at that!
First time i ever had a 1366 build of my own though i have built a Bloomfield one before for my bro as a gift.

XEON's only make sense if they truly dominate anything near them in their price range which is why my baby E5640 was a winner at just 15 quid.

the one's I've gotten have been pulled from servers we don't use at work anymore.

altho I'm a little confused by the whole topic of needing a 6core machine for gaming. but for 270 bux for proc and board it should work fine.

Don't know if mine is a ex server part.

This is the sellers items.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/dr.memory/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
i'd be surprised if it wasn't. not a lot of new xeons get sold to end users. mac pros and some dell/hp workstations are about the only non server prebuilts that use xeons.

the older 6/8 cores are all getting replaced with shiny new 20+ cores are work. amazing what you can talk people into spending to cut the power bill by 50%.

X99 could be expensive, but will last more compared to 1151 / 1150/ 1155 for naming a few, also the new processors are pretty much stronger compared to older ones, but the price on new ones its way too expensive,

I had a choice of going X79 route and grab first generation E5 8 core xeon for dirt cheap.

In the end, I chose X99 and E5-2683 v3. X79 lacks features I want. (Like native USB3, M.2 and so on)
