Make good use of rechargeable grenades. I didn't know they recharge for free so I haven't bothered using them for like half a game lol. On Nightmare XD It gets a bit easier when you get Syphon grenades that drain enemy health and give it to you. Especially when you combine that with unlimited ammo skill, when health is above 100 HP. That helped a ton in latest levels when bunch of biggest ass enemies are being thrown at you.

Boss fights aren't all that hard by itself as they are tricky. Bosses aren't just bullet sponges, you have to figure them out.

Remember, best way to stay alive is to learn how specific enemies attack and what are their weak points. For those shielded bastards, aim for the gap in the shield or use grenades and lob them behind their shield. Explosive weapons also work well even with direct hits.

I passed the game on nightmare, I never used nades... I mainly used super shotty and gauss riffle with suit mobility upgrades to the maximum. Such a great game!

No, when you throw it, square in lower right corner is slowly filing up. You can repeatedly throw grenades, they just take time to "reload" (replenish).

....you just can't hide from enemies.
Can't really "hide" most of the time, but you can usually relocate to a better defense and/or offense position. Also try using the Stun Bomb mod for the Plasma rifle to freeze enemies, makes a big difference.

Another very useful weapon is the Combat Shotgun with Explosive round mod. Once fully upgraded, Explosive direct shots also result in cluster explosions. It makes quick work of a lot of enemies, and even damages bosses a lot.

My first play through on Hurt Me Plenty I was also using Glory Kills a lot to maintain health and ammo, and I never once used the weapon wheel to slow action down when switching weapons. You just have to keep moving a lot.

Yeah, I try to use them as much as possible, but let's face it, the recharge time is slow as hell. Not only that, I think ammo is really scarce in this game. Except for the self recharging gun, which is more than just useless.

And to some degree I hate boss battles. Not only in Doom (haven't got to them yet) in all games like Wolfenstein or Crysis. As you pointed out, they are not just hard to kill, you have to figure them out which can be frustrating as hell.

But the really, really annoying thing is when you arrive to gore nest, pull the "heart" out and then the game locks you in that area so you can't escape or avoid confrontation. Then you're fu***d.

Once you get chainsaw, you'll have so much ammo you won't know what to do with it ;) Also make sure to scavenge for upgrades and allocate them for faster recharging of grenades. This way they'll recharge way faster. And use explosive barrels to eliminate groups of enemies with single bullet.

If it is good DLC it wouldn't be bad. Another 3 or so hours of the campaign. But I wonder how they would differentiate it. Maybe change the setting and add some aspects of the environment which can be used.

Nah, in the end I had so many points I was spending them on stuff I was not even interested in. But I have scavenged basically all upgrade bonuses.

Just started it
For sure i am not impartial. It's been so long since i have ran a decent shooter on my pc. But with the arrival of my rx 480, today i got my hands on Doom 2016.
In Vulkan i get huge unstable frame rates, from 110 - 38 ( depending on what's happening around me). However, using AMD's drive software, i managed to tweak the settings : Frame rate target control 60. VSync always on and other stuff, FreeSync activated on my monitor ....the result is the most flued gameplay i have ever experienced! It is flawless! Loving every moment of the visual smoothness delight

Nothing really happens in the game. And it is somewhat repetitive

However after so many years of gaming , i believe if a game does one thing very good, that is a game worth mentioning. And Doom does "killing everything on screen with rage and pleasure" very well.
The multiplayer should be something else all together

I'm running 16.9.2 with Vulkan and everything maxed (for 3GB VRAM anyway), including AA, but Vsync off, since I get mostly no screen tear with it off. I might try turning it on in Crimson though. On my simple 7970 I'm getting 60-120 FPS. I've been just playing Mission Select up through Advanced Research Complex since putting the settings at max, and don't know if I've hit the most demanding one performance wise yet. It certainly looks way better on max settings than on High.

Gameplay wise it's better than I'd first thought. It doesn't have quite the atmosphere of Doom 3, but it's not a bad mix of original Dooms and Doom 3. Where they really fleshed it out is the extras. It can be quite challenging and take some time to get all the suit and weapon upgrades. Last night I thought sure I was going to stick it out and get all the Elite Guards in Advanced Research Complex, only to find I'd lost my chance at the first one after proceeding through a certain door.

Doom 3 needed a rear view mirror. It had that, never know where it's coming from look over your shoulder" feeling. Doom 2016 is rampage kill everything! There is similarity between this and any Painkiller game. You get the ideea. You're surrounded, your getting hit from every direction and they keep on coming.

A perfect shooter for me, would be Crysis 2007, jungle environment, perfect graphics , and Doom with demons everywhere to kill. This claustrophobic metal room after metal room with another door to open it not exactly my thing. Serious Sam had jungles and aliens/ demons but that game was bad.

Then again the Doom series being a shooter themed around demons from hell fits Mars better IMO. I never got into the titles prior to Doom 3, but one thing that really pulled me in was the concept of Hell being inside of Mars, the red planet, it just fits. I also like how in Doom 3 they slowly revealed more about the archaeological expeditions that discovered the realm and demons within. Doom 3 also did some things much better, like the Arch-Vile, vs the Summonser used in Doom 2016. It was easier to keep track of and kill, but creepier. This game is mostly just a fast paced adrenaline dance. Doom 3 had a lot of suspense and atmosphere in between the chaotic moments.

Yeah but that doesn't mean they are constantly spawning behind your back ... because they are.
They made many encounters with progressively spawning waves of demons, and as you are knee deep in the first wave second wave gets spawned behind you possibly on higher ground  not that I'm complaining, the game would be boring otherwise because the player is just right amount of overpowered to survive the impossible :D

it took me almost 20 hours on my first playthrough, but i played on ultra violence and got most of the secrets which adds time. the game is almost double the length of most modern fps campaigns.
