Diablo II & III - THE GRIND! OH MY GOD. I had already burnt out on MMO's like Runescape and WoW, HELL NO, STAY AWAY FROM ME! PS. To be fair they aren't bad games, but grinding after beating the game just to try and get better loot and not get killed on higher difficulties takes more time than I am comfortable with.

Actually that type of grinding was awesome in Diablo II. Diablo III....hmmm...was already overly done. Basically without grinding for rare items you couldn't continue the campaign.
To the date Diablo II still remains the best hack-n-slash ever.

Diablo II was fun grinding, diablo III was not. Dunno if its because i got older or what, i've started to think i just burned out on D2 and therefore anything that felt similar.

At first some of people's listings made me think "WTH?", but then I reminded myself, that should be most people's reaction based on the thread title and OP: games liked by most everyone, except a few. :)

So, I've suited up in fire-retardant clothing, and will name 2 that I've played that I just don't get the attraction. Both are very off-putting to me.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Dragon's Dogma.

Games are becoming like music, there is just too much offer in theses days, and that makes me turn my head away... no time to check or to compare anything.
I just can't believe how many of you play -nearly- ALL games available, including the bad ones (most are, IMHO, just the titles and box art tell me to keep away from them, haha, but that's not the point here).

Lot's of spare time, hey!? Gang of freaks! LOL

I find a lot of games that I dislike are fun when playing with friends but Borderlands was not one of them, I could do without that whole franchise. I am not big on many FPS SP games, I don't see the appeal of Bioshock/Far Cry/Crysis/Halo/Fallout, etc.. The only FPS I like is BF and that's only because of the multiplayer and the fact that it's based on true to life shit (no sci-fi pulse guns, etc.) and less twitchy shooting with tactics and open maps with many ways to attack the objective. BF multiplayer is great fun with a few friends on voice in the same squad.

I also do not like GTA games, when I do play them i drive around in the many vehicles, I guess it's my affinity for racing games that gets me doing that.

Honestly the only story driven game I have given a dam about in the past 5-10 years would be TW3, I couldn't say why.

Life is Strange and pretty much all Telltale's games.
I don't think of them as a game, but rather a series of video clips that you have to press specific buttons to watch the next one, while it gives you an illusion of choice (xxx will remember that bullshit).
But somehow this type of game attracts a lot of non-gamers and casual gamers who enjoy stories and focus less on gameplay and graphics.

Oh man, yep, totally forgot about those.
My opinion exactly, apart from the attracting non/casual gamers because a lot of people ermm real/hardcore gamers also enjoy them.
But yeah I dont get it either.
All these games had to do was give you proper control so scenes could play out different but nope.avi...

O, I did forget one.

Crysis.....I seriously can't figure out why everyone likes it. Seems bland to me.

A lot of other games peeps are mentioning. Like the first two Bioshocks, Deus Ex, System Shock, first Half Life, Serious Sam, Witcher 2 and 3, etc. Never played them in my life.
I did finally play Bioshock Infinite this year. Its decent, but don't understand the craze hype around it.

I hated Crysis for the same reason I didn't like Halo, just that you vs the world feeling. I want at least some AI by my side.

Edit: Also didn't like having to micromanage my active ability.

Oh I definitely love Crysis! The second was pretty stupid, didn't like it much at all, and 3 was OK. But the original, man I always go back to that game. It's fun for me because there's a lot of freedom for a fairly linear shooter, so much more enjoyable than CoD game with just silly nonstop action.

And with Bioshock Infinite, it was good but it wasn't as awesome as the original. Even though I hadn't played much of the original when I played Infinite, I noticed there was a lot less to the game, easier and not as complex. The complexity of the original was what made it a lot of fun. I'm about to finish the original now, and I love that the game requires a lot of thinking, managing, keeping track of stuff, more to it than run-and-gun.

More blasphemy on Crysis. :p

But Halo wasn't for me either. I tried 2 times on pc to get into it and just didn't happen. Even tried Halo 3 when all my friends were saying how great it was on x360. I played the whole game and some multi but nope, not for me.

I'll call it shit and I'm 30. Totally overrated. I am replaying F.E.A.R. at the moment and it is a ton better. I've beaten Doom 3, Quake 4, Farcry 1, and a bunch of other older shooters in the past few years that I also played back when they were released and they are every bit as good as the past. But HL2 is still bad.

I was really into Sci Fi FPS during that time (00-08). I have played AVP/2, Tribes1+2, UT99-03-04, Halo, Red Faction, RTCW, I don't think HL2 is as good as these. Another FPS I played a lot of back then was Ravenshield, BF1942, BF2. Also better shooters.

I felt like HL2 ripped off from Halo even with the horrible car section and the troped out zombie level. The only part of HL2 I liked was the prison final area.

the reveal of the first one was SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better/bigger as well. Not to mention they did a much better job explaining why the place existed. Infinite was just like "hey there's a sky city, cause no one could start a cult on land"

Yup, a young'un! ;)

@yogurt_21 did you play the same Bioshock I did? Bioshock left me with all questions and no answers. To really understand anything about Bioshock, you've got to play Infinite and especially Burial at Sea. It's shit that they did it like that, but for me that final DLC set was necessary.

Hopefully when I do get around to playing the first two they be better. The run and gun in Bioshock Infinite was way to simple to me plus boring after a while. I don't dislike it as a whole, but I don't go crazy over the darn thing like some others seem to do. Not talking about any here, but another forum board it seems blaspheme if you don't think the game was awesome.

Story was alright, but it not all that great. The ending felt like a cheap way to end the story too. Almost put it up their with ME3's ending of just down right a easy cheap way to wrap up a story.

I honestly can't believe HL2 is on anyone's list...I loved that game and the episodes, but to each his own I guess. I'd have to say my least liked are turn based strategy games or even just strategy games in general.....kids loved StarCraft...I could not get into it.KOTR either.

Well I must say that my opinion of HL2 is ENTIRELY different than HL 1 for the time it was released.

I actually thought this was mostly outrage on HL1, which I fully understand. But HL2 was FAR from revolutionary at its time of release and I feel mostly overhyped. Of the Orange Box, the one release I really played the most was not HL2 but Portal! Thát was the real eye opener on that engine for me, not HL2. HL2 felt like a cheap sequence of short missions, a bit like how Hitman (previous entry, not the recent one) would chop up the levels into smaller sequences. It felt out of place in both games and detracted from the experience. I honestly don't get the HL3 hype either - the real strength of HL was its suspense and the triggered events, and HL2 was not as good at that - like your reference to FEAR which had much better suspense in it. Hundreds of shooters after Half Life 1 copied its 'sandboxy' nature - rooms that could be navigated in different ways, breaking up the linear nature of the game like that, is something that we've seen in virtually every shooter release ever since. That wasn't new anymore in HL2.

HL1 however offered an unsurpassed amount of immersion and creativity and suspense, especially for its time, and it was really seamless, another novelty for that day and age on a game with such length. My comment on age, was mostly directed at thát release because the only reason I can think of it not being such a tremendous experience, is if you played it years after it got released.

The Witcher 1 and 2. I haven't tried 3. I probably just needed to put more time in, but I found the story unengaging and the gameplay unenjoyable. I played about 5 hours of The Witcher and tried Assassins of Kings for a couple.

Also the Bordelands series. I imagine this is solely because I have no friends and tried to play solo.

No need to regret it. The first Witcher, and to a lesser extent Witcher 2 had/have a cult following rather than being massively successful (although 2 was twice as successful as first one (and gave them the money to develop TW3 independant of a publisher with fake timelines).

I think the main reason is the combat is clunky and primitive cimpared to TW3. So altho the story and lore was great in the first 2 games, if you werent a die hard fan, the controls were too screwed up to enjoy them.

HL1 had pretty good AI too. A remaster would probably be a hit. Yes I've heard of Black Mesa but it's incomplete. HL2 was probably the pinnacle of Valve's legacy.

Portal was somewhat yawn-worthy. Portal 2 was funny though.

I've struggled with Witcher 1. Probably will never finish it.

Poor gameplay.A lot of similarities in game map,Map of the game showed no variation and it was like copy paste
For me, this game was like a movie with a beautiful story But not a game.

So Witcher 3 was kind of like Dear Esther?

The only thing not done yet is Xen. Everything else is a masterpiece, and is the definitive way to play HL1 now. It's well worth the money.
