Samurai Warriors 3 - Chaos difficulty is insane

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time & Warrior Within - Maaaan, those freaking controls and save system

Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded secret boss (Data-Roxas) is impossible to beat (on Critical Mode)

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII secret boss Minerva (Hard Mode) is impossible. Seriously never figured it out how to beat her

Those GRiD racing, F1 games, or any good racing simulator that I'm using with a wheel and pedals. Anything more than medium (sometimes even easy) difficulty, cannot ever hope to win a race. And wheel control is completely different from real-life handling of a car, but still fun nevertheless/

Borderlands (all of the Gearbox titles). Such a grindfest and the plot is so uninteresting in general (there's a few good subplots mostly in DLCs).

Virtually every MMO. If it weren't a grindfest, it wouldn't be an MMO, would it? Example of one I loved until I hated it: Firefall.

Game of Thrones by Telltale. I swear this game is a test to see how much you can tear a gamer down before they give up. I loved it until I realized the barrage never ends.

Demon Souls
Love the concept and world, but darn they don't joke about how often one will die.

Old Fire Emblem games.
Love them, but perma death on units that last the whole game is down right evil. Especially if you really like the character. Reason I like the new ones that allow three different modes now, but the battles are still hard later on.

I can only think of one: Bioshock remastered!
Clocked 38 hours in-game before patch. Couldn't make 100% achievements due to constant crashes and config/save resets.
After patch I could only manage 25 minutes, and only in order to find out that now my resolution resets to 1024x768 at each start, and that difficulty reset bug was never fixed.
No wonder it was outsourced to Blind Squirrel...

I played farcy 1 on realistic mode. I don't really remember how hard it was (man it was in the early 00s) the only thing I remember that a single shot could kill you This made helicopters extremely dangerous.

Now I really want to replay original FarCry. Shame, community patch was never finished

DayZ (Or similar). Dayz is so fun in the respect of surviving in a zombie apocalypse and scavenging in a huge map. However, I find it such a chore because starting over constantly wears me out. Not due to getting killed much mind you as that's part of the game and I rack that up to my fault. More along the lines of servers restarting, changing, shutting off, etc. To me, that ruins the immersion and frustrates the hell out of me much more than a random zombie hit or being sniped by someone waiting to take my things.

Starfleet Academy on a modern system... can't see anything then bam crash ship into enemy...reload, and it happens again, rinse repeat. I don't remember it being like this when it launched...

any game where you can get easily obsessed with collectibles... playing the game? love. Tracking down the most well hidden objects just for a damned achievement...not love.

Marvel Heroes is a fun game. I like Marvel and I play it a lot on regular basis. But the only thing that convinces me I am playing it as a game is special events. Regular events or the game without events makes me think I am working with a game instead of playing it. Writing an article about ramen in Microsoft Word is more fun.

And Dying Light: The Fetch - Repetitive Edition.

Dark Souls series. Never tried the first. Never defeated final baddy in the 2nd, had 2 (or 3) left at end of DS3 (with a mage build, which they apparently nerfed for DS3). But awesome games.

Should add, I accepted not being able to 'win', it's what DS teaches you...

Silent Hunter 5 has been both my game of choice lately, and intensely frustrating.. I can't manually target anything despite it being a pretty simple trignomic right angle problem, it's easy for me as a programmer but by the time I do it my math is inevitably out of date.

The game looks gorgeous though, even by today's standards:

A few games I want to add:

Mortal Kombat Trilogy had some extra tough 'brutalities', tons of buttons to mash in so little time (Jax, Ermac, Rain, Scorpion and Smoke)

Performing special combos in BloodRayne 2 is really hard, the game has a really nice combat system but memorizing all those weird button combinations is meh ...

Nightmare Creatures has a stiff combat system and forcing players to constantly refill their adrenaline bar was a bad idea.
