Hey guys! Well I finally did it and managed to get the rest of my build bought and assembled.
For quite some time now I was running on an AMD Bulldozer (FX-8120) and a GTX 680. No more!
I wanted to make this post mostly for anyone that is on the fence about upgrading and is wondering what kind of gains they can see. I can't speak a ton for games as I haven't been able to do any major comparisons yet. The only game I have been playing quite a bit lately is WoW. With that being said, below are the current specs of my build along with an FPS comparison and CPU bench comparison. (stock vs overclock)
This first picture is to compare an FX-8150 (slightly better than what I did have) to the i5 6600k overclocked slightly to 4.6Gz (up from 3.9):
The second is to compare the i5 6600k at stock to an overclock:
The last is to compare the stock clock to an overclock after running a Passmark Performance test:
Full Test:
As far as WoW gains go; thanks to a previous post I made after I only upgraded my video card I found out that WoW and most MMO's are very CPU intensive. Thanks guys!
Old build:
Around 35-42 fps in Stormwind, most settings maxed, not all.
Around 45-60 in the open world (wild)
New build:
Around 60-75 in Stormwind with everything maxed
Around 70-95 in the open world.
Sorry I don't really have pictures for that.
Current Build:
Asus Z170-E motherboard
16GB Ballistix DDR4 2400 RAM
Intel Core i5 6600k OC'ed to 4.6Ghz
Zotac Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Mini
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
At this point I run at the highest of 58c. I would like to OC further but it seems I blue screen after that. I know I need to tweak other things so when I am ready I will do that. For now I am comfy.
TL;DR:
If you are thinking about upgrading to a build similar to this, do it. I HIGHLY recommend it and have been highly satisfied. Feels so good to be fast again.
