GTA V - weird clock spikes.Gtx 1080

Hello. I have an issue on GTA V its very random. Sometimes its fine 5 hours, sometimes drop fps and gpu core clock for a fraction of a second and bring clocks back again.

Screen, i added black arrows to show:

It drop for a second from 1985mhz to 1759mhz. UTIL in gpuz. GPU LOAD 99% not dropped.

What can it be? System clean, all programs closed. Windows 10 Anniversary. Newest drivers.

PC: 6700K No Oc ( good temps )

Gtx 1080 Xtreme ( good temps stable )

Corsair 750 RM

Asus Z170-P

SSD 1x 256gb Crucial

It happens maybe once of 6 hours of play. Nvidia Optimal power setting. Windows Balanced power plan.

PSU failing, GPU failing or software related?

I never played 6 hours GTA V in one session though...

Did you test other games more than 6 hours?

normal gta v leaks memory
restart the game every 4h .and stop looking at gpu-z

I have 16gb ram, so still related to memory leak can be ? ANd why it dropping clocks for a fraction of second?

yes leave well enough alone there is nothing wrong here GTA:V will stutter or drop fps from time to time its NORMAL

Yes i know it stutter from time to time. But why it dropped clocks for a fraction of a second without gpu load drop which was 99%? And gpuz shows UTIL

What he's trying to say is that no piece of software or hardware is perfect. Small hitches like this are to be expected, even when the hardware in use is far superior to what is required or recommended. There is nothing wrong with your hardware, hence why somebody said you're "looking for problems that aren't there."

I just tested "Self radio" and I had my clocks drop with a stutter while playing the game.
It seems rockstar still hasn't fixed this:

Also i formatted ssd again. Installed again Win 10 AU ( before was the same win AU ). Installed GTA V + new update 1.36 and no drops , all fine. Any ideas why format helped ?
Hope problem will not repeat.

If it helped after reinstalling OS then maybe that's the problem. Poorly installed driver or something. If it doesn't happen now then take it Try doing tests after 3 months of playing and there's slight chance it will happen again. windows is such an OS. Constant clean-ups necessary

Is mju, pit? Why did you respond to this question for the OP when you're not OP? Unless you're using 2 accounts?


Be aware that GPU Boost 3.0 on Pascal cards is extremely aggressive when compared to older architectures. Clock speeds are highly variable and are quick to change. This is not an issue.
