I`m in the market for a new cpu. When I say new, there`s a specific shop that i`m buying from so I don`t need any suggestions. My question is this. Which of the following 2 chips is faster
1. core i7-4820k
2. core i7-4790t

I can`t find (proper) benchmarks online. It seems obvious that thye cpu with the higher number is faster but is it ? I ask because the 4820 is cheaper. Is it something to do with the "T" and the"K" ?

K processor will always overclock easier and better. ;)

Choice seems pretty obvious to me.

They are different sockets.

Two different sockets = I no !
So 4820 is better (and in this case cheaper) Ha-Ha !

I`m in the market for a new cpu.
Do you have the Motherboard already?
I only ask as your current Motherboard is a socket 1156 and those CPU's will not fit or work with that set up.

Before you buy anything you should go to a store and see which one really is the fastest. Make an appointment with the manager if you have to install some of your programs. Go to each floor sample and run benchmarks.
Good one :D Sure, a bit of weed on sunday morning won't harm :D

Anyways, an i7-4820k is faster processor, although, they use different sockets.

Shit, my secret is out.

In all seriousness, the 4820 probably isn't much faster than the 4790. In fact, single-threaded performance on the DC chip might be slightly better. If we were talking about the 4820 and the 3770, then maybe it might be apples to apples with respect to performance but, the 4820 (like my 3820,) is just a quad-core with 2MB more L3, quad channel memory, and 40 PCI-E lanes.

I use PassMark to compare CPUs, where i7 4790T gets 9076 points because of a bit lower clock speed, while i7 4820K gets 9756 points. Plus, "T" here means it has lower power consumption/temps, where "K" version has unlocked multiplier and can be overclocked.

The 4820k is a powerful shit, it does not have integrated graphic, more cache (10Mb) and OC decently with good T°.

If u can afford a 2011 socket MB, go for it, u will not be deceived!

The problem with the non K CPU is u can't OC and u will be stuck to the turbo frequency, or maybe u can OC a bit via blck clock but it will not get the performance of a K cpu.

All K cpu hit 4.5Ghz easly so if u need performances for working applications i would go definitely for the 4820K.

You are all over the board chasing availability. That 4590t is weaker than a 2nd gen i5 2400. Brexit pricing schemes?
