ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced GX800, a gaming laptop with the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI graphics and an advanced version of the Hydro Overclocking System liquid-cooling module. The 18-inch GX800 is the first gaming laptop designed to deliver real 4K UHD gameplay. It features NVIDIA G-SYNC technology and supports leading virtual-reality (VR) headsets for super-smooth and stutter-free VR gaming. In addition, GX800 features the Mechanical Tactile Advanced Gaming (MechTAG) keyboard with programmable ROG Aura RGB LED effects for individual keys.

ROG GX800's NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI graphics provides super-fast, silky-smooth gameplay and detailed gaming environments. GX800 is paired with an advanced version of its predecessor's Hydro Overclocking System to give it the cooling performance required for extreme overclocking of the processor and graphics cards. The Hydro Overclocking System helps boost GX800 clock frequencies from 3.2GHz to 4.2GHz. When overclocked, GX800 achieves a 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score of 10395.

A ROG-proprietary connection between the Hydro Overclocking System and GX800 ensures coolant flows smoothly between the two without leaking. The coolant is pumped and circulated around the processor and graphics card, before it returns to the cooling module where two radiators help to dissipate heat. To cope with these demands, GX800 has two 330W power adapters.

Designed for real 4K UHD gaming visuals
The 18-inch ROG GX800 is the world's first gaming laptop to provide real 4K UHD gameplay for realistic, highly-detailed gaming worlds with faster and smoother frame rates. GX800 is able to run games at 'Ultra' graphics settings at frame rates averaging over 60 fps.

In addition, the combination of NVIDIA SLI graphics and the Hydro Overclocking System ensures GX800 has the performance to deliver the very best VR gaming experiences. GX800 provides super-smooth, stutter-free VR visuals with frame rates exceeding 90fps. Featuring plug-and-play compatibility with leading VR headsets, GX800 is designed for immersive VR gaming.

Accurate and responsive keystrokes
The MechTAG keyboard has mechanical switches for positive clicks and 2.5mm of key travel for accurate, tactile keystrokes. It incorporates 100 percent anti-ghosting with 30-key rollover to ensure that multi-keystroke commands are correctly logged - even when 30 keys are pressed simultaneously. In addition, ROG Aura RGB LED effects can be customized for each key, allowing gamers to configure different effects and colors for individual keys.

Such a silly design, Ive never understood how having a monstrosity sticking two feet out behind the laptop (exaggeration) is better then having say a horizontal 2x120 rad mounted parallel to the screen or hell since the thing is a beast anyway, integrate it into the display assembly, whats another two inches of height on a 10 lbs laptop anyway.

I think this laptop is beyond saving, that tumor is just too big and it even got outside the body. ASUS should put it into the hospice care and prepare itself for the worst...

But seriously - WTF is that?! How is that supposed to be comfortable to use? Not only the thickness of the notebook, but then this stupid addon...

The one interesting thing about this is the water seems to be cooled passively. But overall, yuck!

Holy Grammar Batman!

Also, there is nothing "small" about this thing. This laptop is huge, heavy, and bulky.

For an extra 1GHz overclock on the processor and small boost for the GPU, you need a watercooling dock... for a laptop computer?

And that core clock at 3.2GHz is too low for a laptop at this caliber even without watercooling.

So they crammed too much hardware in to a laptop that has to be in a stationary dock to meet certain thermals to work at its full potential. Without this dock its gonna cripple itself with lower clock speeds.

Its likely gonna cost considerably more than a better deskop thats its trying to mimic. So whats the point of this product?

What the hell are you talking about? You don't use that water cooling adapter with it sitting on your lap or something. That's when it's on a desk.

How would it affect the "comfort" of using the laptop in even the slightest?

I don't, however there's nothing unusual about its size if you're using it on a desk, which is the only place you'd use one of these gaming laptop monstrosities.

If you're going to criticize it, at least be factual about it. That's all I'm getting at.

A laptop with enhanced gaming performance. You need a laptop because you work with it outside but you also want to play games at home and don't want to have another dedicated device for that matter. It's the same concept as the external gpus we have already seen, in this case it's poorly done.

I rarely comment on news articles...

But this, this is just a waste of everything. One of the absolute worst inventions I have ever seen in regards to a gaming laptop.
