You sure they are cracked? It still has denuvo inside - steam emulation.

Doom3 currently is the first candidate for benchmarks.

I am pretty sure they are. There is a lot of buzz about there being proper cracks by "CPY". Previous attempts for games like MGSV were "bypassed" by groups like 3DM, and now CPY is properly cracking them. My understanding is cracking = entire removal of the DRM. Now I have no idea how to determine if it has been entirely removed or not and I don't have enough interest to figure out how to. A quick google search brings up a list of proper cracks for Denvuo games. It seems like CPY has it down but no other group can figure it out yet, so there are still delays in cracking it due to man power shortage. I have no idea why only one of the groups can figure it out either.

I like how they blame pirates for their sales.. they seem to compare download rates to purchase rates, except it's far from a black and white picture.

My Steam account.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/maikaru/

I pirated FALLOUT 4 to see if it was worth the hype.. so basically a demo of the game, i turned on god mode and went around the map randomly testing performance and played a few missions, basically a demo's worth since we don't even fucking get them anymore!

Shall we ignore that i purchased FALLOUT 4?

I'm not a pirate i buy wisely is what i do.

imo that's not pirating but had you decided the game wasn't worth buying after evaluating it and decided to keep the pirated version and keep playing it anyway then it would be pirating. I'm no saint. I have pirated games but that was over 30 years ago and we didn't call it pirating back then. Most games could not be found in stores and there was no internet to go on to order them.

I tried GTA V for the same purpose and benchmarks my PC with it, it's a game i will also buy but down the line just not right now as i have plenty.

I don't keep games i pirate or play them anywhere close to completion, i'm usually done after a mission or two and some benchmarking as that's the best way for me to see if it's appropriate for me.

People who pirate games can largely be categorised into three groups.
First is the kids who can't afford to buy games in the first place. They pirate everything because they have no income. Publishers lose no sales to this form of piracy because if the piracy was prevented they'd still get nothing.
Second is the people who are vehemently against paying for anything. They will pirate a handbag if it were possible because they are that way inclined. We have a guy at work who not only downloads films and music, but also downloads magazines and any other media available through piracy. If torrents were suddenly deleted from the internet tomorrow, he still wouldn't pay a dime to get these things. Again, publisher gains nothing.
Third is this sort of middle crowd. They'll chance a download in hopes it'll work, but give up at the first complicated hurdle and probably cave in and buy the product instead. These tend to be your 25-40 year olds who don't have much free time to faff around with cracks and setting up clients, but have a solid income and don't mind shelling out for entertainment that'll last them over the small amount of spare time they have in the evenings. Quite often these people will pirate something and then buy it legit a year later on DVD/Steam because it's on sale, or their family ends up buying it for them. This is the group that publishers could consider to be lost sales, but I'd put my neck out and say this is minimal.

Obtaining a copy of digital content without a license to possess it is piracy. What you do or don't do with it doesn't matter.

I'd argue that sales can still be made here through GOG and Steam years down the road. They see the game on sale, enjoyed it, so they buy it. A lot of games in my library fit in that class (never played after I bought because I played it previously and liked it).

Just give me a damn demo for the game and there is no reason to try it from a shady source before hand.

Most good mp titles i buy on Steam, Origin, Uplay etc.
But for single player only, i do get torents from Skidrow, CPY, Razor1911, Reloaded etc.
And most of the games i played pirated had no performance impact what so ever vs original legit versions.
DRM is a waste od time in my opinion.
Pirating would lose its game if prices drop on new games.
60$ for new AAA title is too much i think, even by most standards.
Game companies should drop prices in games (not much, but 15 - 20%) and include all DLCs in every update instead of buying them separately.
That way i think more people would go and buy games instead of pirating them, and that would be awsome for all gaming community.

Producing demos costs money.

Steam already provides an alternative: by the game, play it, don't like it within 2 hours, get a refund.

It's actually cheap considering how much they cost to make.

Sometimes I buy the product and pirate it to bypass shitty DRM on single player games. Ubisoft and Uplay was a big one, although I'm not sure how the service is now. Probably do the same thing for South Park: TFBW. Absolutely no need to have uPlay installed and running in the background when I buy it through Steam.

In a game like Fallout 4 you can't see very much in 2 hours to evaluate the game but I guess you could get a general idea if the game was shit in that amount of time.

I agree that $60 isn't much for the hours of entertainment you get from a good game. Very cheap entertainment, especially if a game is replayable. I still wait for the games to get patched and polished after their release and grab them cheap on a sale though.

Producing demos costs money.

And Good free Demo's CAN Promote Full Game Sales

Example ( wuckin wish i had )
i got $70 to buy a game
do i ?
just buy what may be promoted CRAP and Regret Being out of pocket at the end of the Experence
Download a Demo see if its living up to the hype then either buy it or carry on looking
People have mentioned Steam Sales and Returns

2 hours is not long enough to properly assess any decent Game ( life gets in the Way )
not every one use's Steam or has Decent enough Internet to use Steam

Why have it at all? Wasn't the whole reason the gaming platforms such as Steam, Origin and Uplay came into being was because they basically told companies "enough DRM! We will be your DRM"? The anti-DRM feeling also led to the huge popularity of GOG.

So what is the purpose of a publisher implementing Denuvo despite the overwhelmingly vast numbers of law abiding purchasers not wanting it? And it's only good for 3 months? That's ridiculous!

It's not ridiculous. Games today are hit and run: generate press buzz, sell as much as you can on launch, try to drop it like it's hot later. Nobody builds an AAA title with the intent of creating a gaming community around it or offering something in the way of game play. MMOs are different, but other titles are only supposed to rake in some cash fast and that's it.

You missed my point tho. The whole concept of Steam selling itself to publishers was for Steam itself to be the DRM. To a lesser extent that was the intent of Ubisoft and EA as well.

That's why it is an issue when games that are only playable on one of the platforms has additional DRM.

Game companies should drop prices in games (not much, but 15 - 20%) and include all DLCs in every update instead of buying them separately.

But are you willing to accept less content, less quality and less risks? Less platform specific features which will hurt PC gamers the most? Costs are going up, not down. I hardly pay full price for games either but you must accept reality. Sure, cutting the price will sell some more copies but probably not enough to make up the loss of a 15-20% price reduction.

I already am. I'm playing mostly indie games that don't come with as much content, but are actually fun to play instead (off the top of my head: Path of Exile, Spaz, Jets'n Guns, Grim Dawn, Pillars of Eternity). I don't mind paying $60 for something like the Witcher series either. But $60 for a rehashed FIFA, Battlefield and whatnot? Fuggidaboutit. Those aren't even built from the ground up each year to worth the asking price.

--^ Agree. I bought DA3 since I loved the series, but the game story and characters were utter crap. Same with the last 3 AC... I personally love to buy the physical box with DVD and manual, but the games are getting more and more expensive, while their quality is decreasing with each new release.
I can understand why some people are not trusting the game producers anymore, and prefer to use pirated versions.
Now my fingers are aching to pre-order the new Mass Effect, but the game is overly priced right now. I mean 60, 70 and 100$ without taxes?? Are you kidding me?!

And it's only good for 3 months? That's ridiculous!
Not sure about the 3 months part.
Definitely a no-brainer for AAA titles
This
( and Target no 1 for prosecution ).>>>> :)
LOL! This is so brutal! I'm having a blast with this thread

Total War Warhammer is a editors choice on many important e-gaming news publications. hundred of thousands would have played this, even online, if not for Denuvo . I'd say a 10% of those people bought the game or will do so. This is a win for the company right ?

Till this very moment, Diablo 3 for PC has not yet been cracked, nor it will ever be

It's not about trust in producers as much as it's about basic economics. When gaming turned into an industry, all of a sudden I'm not paying for a game, I'm paying for all the marketing about it, for a thousand employees that don't actually build the game, but move papers around, for the cost of the server infrastructure when all I care about is single player and so on. And I might go for all that if I saw some genuine care for a title. But I don't.

I see a lot of herd mentality in here. It's as if many of you want to be fed DRM again. It's completely unnecessary. If you don't treat your customer base like criminals, then many more will gladly pay you for your game.

You can't leave your house unlocked thinking that only decent people are around. Don't see the big deal with Denuvo . It does not effect the customer .
Thing is lots of the games suck. The closest thing to an educated purchase are video reviews. "The scene " mention's if you like the game buy it . Mostly that never happens . The user will exhaust the single player mode, and maybe will buy the game for the multiplayer part, if that hasn't been delivered already.

If i would be the owner of a big gaming company i would definitely make sure nobody plays my game if they don't buy it. And since they got Denuvo now, it would be nice to have a free demo to try the game first.
