Best codec / player for movie file for videos in Windows 7

Hello,

I have HP Envy 17 3D (3090nr) , it has windows 7 , AMD graphic card and full HD HD display , 3D.

I had some issues with gom player with some mkv files for last few months, it was slowing playback (slow motion) during some files while watching songs or reversing or forwarding it..I didn't notice same problem with media player classic..Even GOM has ads..So I uninstalled it today..I had cccp codec installed too..

So I looked for cccp update but codec hasnt been updated for almost 1 yr and more..

which codec/player do u guys recommended?

gom/mediaplayerclassic/vlc?
&which codec?

I just load VLC with some other software using Ninite.com and call it a day.

I usually load:

Chrome
Firefox
Malwarebytes Free
MSE (if Windows 7)
VLC (I prefer for video, but handles video and audio very well)
Foobar 2000 (I prefer it as a local media file player)
LibreOffice

As-far-as codec packs, I really haven't installed one in a long time...but I used to like K-Lite Codec Packs. That one is also on Ninite, but again I usually don't need to deploy a codec pack often anymore. Hope that helps! :toast:

I haven't been required to install any codec for ... I forgot how long.

I think same..Cccp plus media player classic seems best..But Cccp hasn't been updated isn't it.

MPC HC. I haven't used a codec pack ever since I've used MPC HC years ago. Before that I was using FFdshow. Codec packs were always garbage, causing conflicts and problems.

Using MPC-BE here (a fork from MPC-HC with some added features and a slick dark theme). No need for extra codecs and also supports madvr. Can't go wrong with it IMO. :cool:

DAUM Potplayer, from the creators of KMPlayer, regularly updated and no codec packs required. It even played 4k60fps H265 on my overclocked 2500k which other programs could not touch.
